Default Sym. Wing Building Tip

Here is a tip for inserting the yardstick into a sym. wing. No gluing of the yardstick is needed. Attached is a drawing of the steps.

I take it, then, that you've used this technique / invented it ? How did it work out for strength ?

It worked out great. This technique was used in Project: Corro Wonder. About four pages down. You may want to take a Look. The strenght is in the yardstick. If you have ever built a sym. wing, then inserted the yardstick, you know it can be a bi*ch. CA'ing is a bear too. Takes a lot of the hassle out of the building.

Sure takes the hassle out of lining up the spar after inserting it, especially for tall spar/funfly applications. I'll have to try this one out soon.

Will this method also work on flat-bottom wings?

I haven't tried this on a flat bottom wing. Someone mentioned AIRCORE did this. Are AIRCORE wings flat bottomed or sym. But anyway, you would have to put the yard stick inside the wing before gluing to get the top wing guide measurement. More distance on top then the bottom. (Everyone knows this) Once this is done, the guide strips could be glued in. Then glue the wing(TE). Then,HOPEFULLY, the yardstick SHOULD slide into the guides. Why not give it a shot and let us know.
Enjoy

I tried this wing idea and it works great. Mine was a very tight fit and just as RC Wings said...no glue need for spar. BTW, I did it on a all 2mil sym. wing. Now all I need is a fuse to put it on.

Thank You. I'm glad you found it useful. Now if it will work on a flat bottom wing; we may have a GREAT tip.

RCWings , last summer I made a spar jig to hold down and space my spars on the flat bottom wing designs. It works so good that I can fold and glue in minutes of having the wing cut to shape. Picture an "E" cut out of 3/4" plywood face down and cut to fit and hold a yardstick or 2 yardsticks at the same time. Easy jig to build and works great. If anyone wants pics I will post them.

Don't laugh at how simple this is. It really works great at spacing and holding spars while glue sets up.
