Default My New BIG SPAD named "TAZ"

Here are a few pics of my new Spad - First time to build a big one but I think it turned out pretty good. [8D]

Here are some specs:

Wing - 90"
Fuse - 58"
McCullough 32cc Weed Eater motor turning a 18X6-10 prop
Custom made landing gear with 5 " wheels
Flight ready weight - 23 lbs. (ouch ! turned out a little heavy)[]

The first flight went well but the plane seemed a little tail heavy so we added some nose weight
for the next flight and the plane flew better but I could tell that it needed more power ( dont they all !! ). I have since
replaced the McCullough with a Zenoah 45 ( pics and a flight report to follow ) - I think this should do the trick

Enjoy

Do I see twin vert stabs and one rudder? Is that weight necessary?

Bravo:

Looks GREAT !!

Since you call it "Taz" you need a few of these on it somewhere

Or maybe a couple of these

since SPAD pilots seem to have "No Fear" when it comes to flying in windy conditions

No problem I can build in the house and fly soon...later

The wing is held on with 2 - 6" carriage bolts with washers that go thru the trailing edge of the wing ( about 1" back from the trailing edge ) to blind nuts that come up thru the bottom of the plane. In the middle of the leading edge of the wing there is a small dowel rod that goes into the aluminum wing saddle. This was a very simple set up but holds very well

Throt & Ails - Hitec HS 475HB
Rud - JR NEH531

I am going to upgrade the Ail. servos to something with about 80 in/oz each
