Default Cheap Engine

I need a cheap engine for my SPAD FNS 40 to practice with. The 2 cheapest ones Ive found are the OS .40 LA $50.99 and the Thunder Tiger GP42 for$52.99 . Any opinions on which would be the better? On an article I read it stated that the OS LA engines are hard to hand start. Any truth in this.[&:]

Both are good engines although not to be compared power-wise with ball bearing types in the same displacemnt range. I have a gp.42 and it runs best with an Master Airscrew 11x4 prop.

Found that site but I also found a better deal. Sheldons has MECOA .40 BB with muffler for 44.99. Was just about to get one when I found a MAX XL .46 with prop and spinner barely used for 50.00. Grabbed it instead. Also got a complete airtronics VG 400 system used once for 75.00. Im going to put my asp .40 on my FNS and try to get it in the air tommorow evening.

The engine is not a good time to be cheap....you'll hate yourself later when it becomes a paperweight.

If I were you, I would go to Ebay and pickup a hardly used OS-46 for $77 or a hardly used TT-46 for $55 or even a Magnum 46 or Tower 46 for $50. Same price...better engine. Or check RCuniverse's marketplace...heres a magnum for $55...http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemId=24249 . I bet if you offered him $48...he'd take it...he's already got an offer for $45.

Cjsworks:

I have a gp42 an os46la and a mds40 on my current spads and of them the os is the worst to get started for some reason. The OS makes decent power for a bushing motor but not one of OS's best motors by a long shot. My faithful gp42 always starts easy runs great and I can't remember the last time I had it dead stick on me....how could you go wrong with that cheap motor. The mds runs great and starts alot better than the OS it just took longer to get the mds broken in is all.
