Yes. Most obvious is the SPA3D. Next up are some of the profiles that chrispad has made. The SPA3D is a very easy to build 3D plane that will teach you the style of flying that 3D is....low and slow. It will also handle the many crashes headed your way as you learn 3D.

The 3D SPADS fly 3D awesome. Also, I contend that they are the best way to learn 3D. There is so little $ invested in these that they beg to be flown on the deck. Learning 3D way up in the sky because you are afraid to break something is the best way to never learn 3D at all. Go with the SPA3D. You'll love it.

Well can someone please email me SPA3D's plan ?

And tell me some link where good 3D plans are available .... surfing thourgh SPAD web sites and searching for plans is a difficult and fruitless activity, because most of the time you come up with trainer plans.

Please help this NEW BELIEVER ... i am really new to the world of SPAD.
Hope it turns up good for me.

What is the average weight of a .40 Size SPAD profile plane capable of doing 3D ?

Thanks Again.

What kind of airfoil does that plane have ?

It looks really strange.

I saw it on other planes also .... but is it a proper design or simply just a made up airfoil.

Thanks,
Usman.

this type of plane doesn't really need an airfoil because it literaly hangs on the propeller disk. if you end up in a dead stick than start praying cause it falls out of the sky like a brick. but they are perfect for 3d. I have one and loved it from the very first moment

It's my proper design.....lol 1.5" thick airfoil with the bottom fold extending 30% back. It actually does ok on deadstick landings, you just need a little speed.

What if a real type airfiol is made for such planes ?
Why isn't a proper airfoil used ?

PROPER? It flys. A conventional airfoil can be used. My next plane will have it.

Proper? With these planes you are flying past the point of stall. The airfoil is doing nothing...the prop is doing everything. At this point the wings are more like fins, just keeping the body and motor pointed in the right direction.

Look at this:

No airfoil at all. Just a sheet of 3/4 inch thick foam. Flew great and would 3D with the best of them. Here's 2 videos of it:
[link=http://quicker.rchomepage.com/video/hots_flight_2.wmv]http://quicker.rchomepage.com/video/hots_flight_2.wmv[/link]
[link=http://quicker.rchomepage.com/video/hots_first_flight.wmv]http://quicker.rchomepage.com/video/hots_first_flight.wmv[/link]

Look at all the electric foamy 3d birds. No airfoil, just a sheet of foam.

Thanks for backing me up Quicker. Weather it's plastic or balsa, there is no one proper way to do anything with fun fly.

If the plane is balanced.................It will fly

Exactly. No ONE way to fun fly.

Here's another one from Spastic. It's a balsa version of the SPA3D. Pretty sweet. The video is good to:

I have the motor mounted and just need to get the electronics in. I've been swamped with little league baseball, vaction bible school and now this week is boy scout camp. Needless to say, I'm running short on time. What's frustrating is I can't shut my brain off and I keep having all these ideas. I've also got a balsa profile 3D bipe that I designed on the building table.

A "real" airfoil is possible with the spad design. It is a little more work to do but IMHO, worth the effort.
