Default "resist the urge to ...degrade, insult...someone in your post."

Dear Friends of this incredibly wonderful hobby(rc aviation) and this particular niche(spads),

As I am in Vicksburg, MS, I have been affected by Hurricane Katrina: just received power after being without for exactly a week. Today, I was thrilled to be back on the internet to check emails to see how family and friends have fared as well as seek news of the disaster that may be not covered on TV. After ascertaining that my family members are safe and sound, I turned to RC Universe to read and relax.

I came to the SPAD forum and began reading. To my dismay, there was a response from a contributor that did not adhere to the admonition to refrain from insulting and degrading comments. I pulled up some more of his posts and found that this was not an isolated event. This member seems to delight in making statements like "must be under a rock" or "stupid and repetative(sic) posts".

I have been a member of RCU long enough to know that this is the exception, not the rule; however, I felt the need to write to express my disillusionment with those few who take this route. Perhaps it is the anonymity of the internet that empowers people to write things they would not ordinarily say in person(I am sure that the person of whom I speak will say to himself, "Not me; I say what I wanna say".)

There is enough nastiness in this old world already(witness the looting, shooting, rapes, etc. in the New Orleans area). Please, let's not do this type of thing at RCU. It should be a safe haven. If it bothers you to read for the millionth time a question about gluing coroplast, don't read it!

My $00.02.

RCU ROCKS!

i hate to get involved with this anymore than i already have been, but, posts of this nature do nothing but (whether intentional or not) drag up bad feelings and incite more problems, from years of experience moderating multiple forums (even this one) i speak from experience.
I'll offer you a solution to your problem - there is an ignore button below every post. If you don't want to hear what someone says, then, by all means, please use the ignore button or report their actions to the moderators. Slinging more mud never helps.

Just my .02

I guess they need the moderators from the beginner's fourms to come over here.
I made a post about my first flying experience, made a coment in humor (one not made at any member). One moderator e-mailed saying he saw the humor in it, thought it was pretty funny, but suggested I should tone it down in the future. Another moderator with no sense of humor e-mailed me saying that my wording is offensive, and will not be tolerated. He edited my posting hacking it all to (bleep). After reading his 'edit', I e-mailed him that I rather have the whole thread removed than read what he wrote.
But I agree with you eduk8r, comments made to other members should not be tolerated. And I've seen it myself on this site. It's probably a case of 'who you know', if ya know what I mean.

I have been on RCU for a while and came to realized , more people read into things just a little bit too far. If I am asking about SPAD planes and someone ask where have I been under a rock ? I can will only take that as I am behind the times as far as SPAD planes go.

Nah, if you followed the threads, and read what they were about, it was really not that far out of line. I too cannot stand those people who like to make others feel bad. Nothing nice or encouraging ever comes from them, just sarcasm and rude comments, ....but I don't see that happening from this situation.
