gutter pipe

Hey guys,
I want to try a Spad and found the design I want to build. Its the Gremloid that I found here, http://www.svensons.com/airplanes , but I cant find 2.5 square gutter pipe anywhere. Could I use the 2x3 pipe that home depot sells, or is there a source for 2.5 in all the plans.

Another question - should the flutes of the coro go width-wise on this plane and should I re-enforce it with something?

Thanks

What you need. A little pricey, good supply of PVC for future projects

The product you are looking for is "Raingo" down spout made by Genova Products. Call them at (810) 744-4500 and ask where in your area you can buy the Raingo 2 1/2" square down spout. It's sold in local hardware stores in 10 foot lengths but relatively inexpensive. You won't find it at the "Big Box" stores.

The flutes in the coroplast material should be oriented in the chord wise direction and the wing should have a spar in it for strength. I have used yard sticks and 1" by 1/4" wood strips that I find at Home Depot. Look at the "Spad to the Bone" web site for more details about building planes from coroplast.
1/2" xxxx

http://www.spadtothebone.net/SPAD/ has a bunch of ideas. That should get you to the right page. It is in my Favourites list. The Canadian gutter pie is about 1 3/8" and a bit lighter. I can never seem to find it even in Canada, but scraped up a couple of pieces when I did find it.

I had the same trouble finding the square gutter pipe. Thanks for the info on where to get it. I mentioned in another post that I made the square section out of luan plywood. Seems like it will hold up.

Update to old thread

I called Genova Products about the "Raingo" 2 1/2 square down spout. They said their assets were purchased by another company and that downspout hasn't been made for over a year. So finding this product going forward will be nearly impossible unless someone knows another manufacturer or source. Bummer!

In Canada here we had a Rona hardware store that carried a plastic downpipe but it was special order. I was thinking of getting a few, but already have quite a bit. It had different colours like brown and beige, which is what I was thinking of. That was a couple years ago. On the website it seems like it is ribbed. Not really ideal. Not sure if they still have the smooth. There is a "Euro___ type too that is 2" x 3". Anyway Plastmo is the brand. Not sure of availability. https://www.rona.ca/en/plastmo-k-sna...k15021-5539012 It is not cheap, but is in Canadian$ which is only worth $0.77 right now.
