Prop Spinner
Hey all I am new this. I realize I must have a prop spinner for my spad. The engine is a TT 46. The body is gutter pipe. What size?
Thanks, Mark |
RE: Prop Spinner
What ever works that is on the shelf. :D
If you want to be real technical messure the widt of your fuselage and go with a spinner equal to it. BTW, you don't have to have a spinner either. :D :D |
RE: Prop Spinner
I like an aluminum prop nut. It makes changing props really quick. I really dont think a spinner will save you many props.

RE: Prop Spinner
I would pick the spinner based on the prop. Those APC props never fit the spinners -- you typically have to cut them. Sometimes the spinner has those legs that connect the 2 pieces and so you have to go up to an even larger size. I have a 2 1/2 inch spinner on a 46 sized engine that I had to cut up severely to fit a 12x4 prop but when I tried to put a 12.25 x 3.75 APC in there it won't fit at all and I can't even cut it to make it work. So if I were you I would go with something at least 3 inches or even bigger to save you headaches....or go with a TruTurn.
Spinners....I really don't understand -- with APC props being the most popular prop -- why these plastic spinner companies can't fix their spinners to fit them. This problem has been around for so many years now. |
RE: Prop Spinner
I use a Du-Bro spinner nut on my TT Pro .46, it seems to balance better. However, a large plastic spinner offers a little better protection for the carb in a nose crash.

RE: Prop Spinner
I'd say the reason they dont correct the spinner design is
1. They sell anyway because many RC guys are too cheap to buy tru turn. 2. As soon as you modify the spinner they are off the hook for liability. 3. Like so many other things... as long as people settle for a poor product they will continue to provide it. |
RE: Prop Spinner
you are probably right avngr1,
solution= use the prop nut |
RE: Prop Spinner
I know it isnt as nice looking as the big plastic spinners, but I have been using the Fox aluminum spinner nuts on all the Spads lately. I really like them and they look cool too. About 5 bucks each and all the newer motors OS/GMS/Tower are 1/4-28 thread now.[8D]
