Spadet Planting

I planted my spadet today in the mud and was wondering what is the best way to clean the engine. Can I clean it with paint thinner? If not what type of solvent should I use? One more thing, The antena got smashed flat and there is some wire showing, is this a bad thing? Can I wrap some black electrical tape around it or should it be replaced?

BTW... The spadet came out unscaved, God I love coro!

Thanks
Ed

SPAD planting

I have planted my SPADET from a hundred feet and it took me about half an hour to clean out the carb make it flyable again. Do that with balsa....NOT. I have also found a tree or two with it and it still looks pretty much the same as when I built it. You gotta love that coroplast.
You should be able to flush the carb out with glow fuel. If it is an OS motor you can remove the mounting screws on both sides of the carb and it will come straight out of the mount. That should give you enough access to clean it out. Good luck.

I really like my SPADET. I think I would be on trainer #3 by now if I was flying balsa and monocoat :D

Spadet Planting

Just for info, I usually clean out my engines after a good planting using petrol/gasoline. Sad to say I have become a good planter!!!!

You can also use spray carburetor cleaner from the auto parts store..... WD-40 works too.....but I like carb cleaner....just be sure to either run the engine afterwards....even for a little bit....or use some after run oil in it......

I also use WD-40. I just take the carb off and put it in a bucket and start spraying. Open the carb and shoot it in and through the openings. I've also cleaned the entire engine (outside, not inside) this way. Get an old toothbrush, soak the engine and start scrubbing. Blow out the carb to dry it out, put it back on and fire it up.
