Eliminator Air Races | Test & Tune 2022
Test and Tune | Prep Race
Test and Tune meets are not full events. They are organized practice sessions during open flying. We take control of the flight line for a set number of flights; then reopen the field for normal flying. Based on the goals of the day we may just run qualifying heats or simulate an entire race. This is a perfect time to practice the course, test new ideas on your plane, or try racing for the first time. Test and Tune meets are free to all club members of the Pomona Valley Model Airplane Club (PVMAC). If you are not a member and would to fly at the meet you can purchase a day pass at the field (or join the club).
Days Schedule: (may change as needed)
(Race Schedule Based on 45 Airplanes)
_7:00am | Setup and Final Registration
_8:00am | Pilots Meeting
_8:30am | Qualifying Round 1
10:20am | Qualifying Round 2
12:00pm | (30min Lunch Break)

Just a reminder for the up coming Test and Tune event at the Prado Airfield
This Saturday, January 8th, 2022, will be the Eliminator Test and Tune event at the Prado Airfield. The weather looks to be cool with little to no wind; 65degs with winds at 4mph in the afternoon. This event will be held during open flying at the airfield. If you are not a club member there will be $20 landing fee. We are looking forward to testing the new updates on the software, namely the printing system. Also, we will be training new additional workers. If you are going to join us, please pre-register at warbirdracing.org.
For those that would like to try air racing for the first time, this event is for you. You will learn the basic concept of pylon racing along with the start, race, and landing procedures. It’s a “Run What You Brought” event so any airplane can race. We hope to see you there.
Pilots meeting will be at 8:00am and 1st round of qualifying will be at 8:30am.

On the first post, Ben put a link to the "warbirdracing.org" website. If you click on the link, it will take you to that page.
Click the "Rules" tab, and you will find more specific answers.
But, to very briefly summarize, it is not so much as issue of wingspan, as much as it is wing area. The entry level, Run What You've Brung class, does not have wing area stipulations. No need to have anything special just to give this a shot -- and see what you think of this type of racing! Just bring what you likely already have, on-hand, that will fly the necessary course time of 2 minutes and 30 seconds for tens laps (if you are looking to be truly competitive).
However, IF you are looking at jumping-in to one of the other classes, your airplane should have at least 500 square inches of wing area. So, at over 500 square inches, your plane will also qualify for Silver and Gold -- and therefore any of the current classes in the ELIMINATOR series.
Personally, I would recommend an airplane with a wing area of at least 515 square inches. This is my reasoning:
If you "get hooked" (And we certainly hope you do!), perhaps you might eventually have interest in racing in either/both the RCPro or Sacramento Area Modelers series. If you come north, with the Sacramento group, we have a little more specific "Wing Area to Engine Displacement" chart. Most of us are flying airplanes that allow us to use YS 110s and YS 115s. Engines of that size, require at least 515 square inches of wing area. So, an airframe over 515 sq. inches opens the door for you to fly competitively in any of the classes, and in any of the series throughout California, and the Southwest.
Hope my opinion is helpful to you,
Ollie

Test and Tune Review
We want to thank those that came to the Test and Tune event this last week. Some real good things came from that event. We have 2 new pilots that tried racing for the 1st time. Both of them have registered for the upcoming Eliminator Race on February 19th. Also, we train 2 new crew members. Jeff will now be running the software and scoring the events. Lionel will be replacing me as our announcer. Those that attended commented on his mastery of puns and enjoyed is work. We tested the time slip print out; everyone loved them. We are continuing to do all that we can do to better each event. We look forward to seeing all of you at the upcoming race.
By the way, if you have not registered for the upcoming race in February, please do so sooner than later. We will have entry limits.
Gold – 20
Silver – 20
RWYB – 25
