Hi Guys,

The first RCPRO Warbird race for the fall series will be taking place at the Victor Valley RC Park on September 18th. Come and take advantage of the new rules allowing Nitro, Gas and electric power to run side by side. Three classes, Gold, Silver and Bronze, with trophies for the first three places in each class. This AMA sanctioned event is sponsored by the Victor Valley RC Flyers and is open to all AMA pilots. Come join the fun.

Hey Terry,

I am hoping to make the race. Your group does a great job, and I look forward to having some great racing. I hope we are all racing "loud" engines in Gold.

I just got my 6th tank thru my fresh 110. I am ready to fly it on my 60%. I switched from Magnum to Ritch's Brew. I also upped my nitro level from 55% to 60%. Maybe Ill get a first for once.

I will just be getting back from the Ks USRA race that same week. If I am caught up and still able to go to Victorville, Ill be there.

I have heard there are suppose to be a few from SUPRA coming.
Any word on Phoenix gang?

Have any of your clubs guys plunged in to the ranks of Gold yet?

Ill be hoping to fly silver and gold or at least gold. My caller may not be coming and that should free me up to race in his spot in silver.
Ill be looking for a caller to help keep me on the poles.

Hey Dave,
The race is set for the second weekend of Oct. The Venue is suppose to be in Williams,Az. This is 90% certain. If not they are looking for another location, but the dates are secured to allow others to make plans for vacation etc. That is what I am told. When it is finalized (Location) it will be posted up on USRAINFO.ORG and I will try to get a posting up here on RCU.

Hi Marty,

I'm glad to hear that you are planning to come to the race. I'm looking forward to racing against you again. Hopefully this time you won't have any engine problems and we can dance for the full ten rounds. I'm working on my gold planes. The cub is fine but I see you don't think it isn't loud enough. I'll see if I can do something about that.
Also planning to use my 1.10 powered Strega for Gold. It will depend on how they compare over the next two weeks during practice. I would prefer to fly the Strega. I will be flying all three classes as usual.

I know a couple of our members have been working on gold planes but I don't know if they are race ready. I should find out shortly. I haven't talked to the Phoenix gang for a while but will be sending emails in preparation for the race. Hopefully we will have some of them here. They always come prepared to take home some trophies.

I raced some club 40 yesterday and it got the juices flowing. Really looking forward to the warbird racing.

Blessings, Terry

Terry,
Yep, this engine will hold up. With the new 60% the needle is even smaller but I have a pretty good feel for it. Seems some of my problems was the fuel I was using. I have switched and am hoping for better results. So far I have an entire 6 round race thru the engine and it is still fine. Now to get it in the air and let it unwind.

I have a back up Gold with the 140 in it so I should be good to go.
Kinda funny my small block 110 is my fastest one of the bunch.
Rays custom work really pays nice dividens!!

I got a chance to run my Strega today and it is looking strong. Probably be my #1 gold plane with the cub for backup. My Zero is running well so I'm set for silver too. I may throw something new together for Bronze. I heard from Jerry Widmer and he and Shannon are coming and possibly Tony Lopez as well. They will fly gold if we get enough for two heats.

Blessings, Terry

Terry,
Glad the plane flew good and the cub can sit in the hanger.

I got 2 flights on my dago today. Still running it rich on the 60%. It is ready to open up, but I will wait to stress the airframe at your race. I figure this plane is good for a season, and I have a race on it already and 4 extra flights so I am protective of it.
It is fast, smooth and ready to run. I cant wait to get this leaned out and in traffic with everyone!! There were 4 others out there and when my YS popped off they stood back a little more than usual. The flight line got quiet and all eyes were on the Dago. It launched, retracts up and climbed high enough to simulate a start dive and it came roaring down on the deck and all I could hear was, "Man that is the fastest mustang I've seen". Most hadnt seen a warbird racer, and certainly not a built YS. A good day and I feel ready to race.
Im off to KS Wed for the USRA race and then look to see you all the following weekend!!
Not sure how many from SUPRA are coming, but I would suspect every class will see us.

Yeah, the first time someone sees, and hears, a YS on 60% it definitely gets their attention. Sounds like you are all set. Maybe I need to do a little more to get prepared for you and that Dago Red. The Widmers are always fierce as well. Should prove to be some great racing.

Good luck at the USRA race.

My 60 is all I have for this race. But I have that 45% and 55% nitro I was running. It is magnum. I caution you on it. I cant say it was the cause of my engine woes, but it may have been. I tend to push my needle to the very edge and will often suffer as a result. BUT if you keep the needle content to the richer side, it should be fine. I have 3 gls (I think). Id sell them for $10 a gl. They cost me over $30 ea.

Its not 60% but darn close, your call. Not everyone runs 60% I believe Richard V was only running 45-55%.

Hey David,

I saw some pics from the field this week and it looks like you've thrown a 2 stroke in that Strega. How did it do? I hope you guys will have a gold offering. It would be great to have at least two heats in gold.

I think Travis can get 60% fuel from his supplier. Not sure if he can get it by next weekend but it wouldn't hurt to ask. Seems like the price was good.

Blessings, Terry

We welcome you David. I am confident you will find the RCPRO group , at all the venues, to be some of the nicest guys in racing.
Are you flying that Voodo in Gold?
If so I may have tamper with the 55%.
Just kidding of course.

Is it a WM plane or home brew?

I tried to get one more flight on my Dago, but seems there are some issues with the hi-tec servo for the retract. My gear collapsed while taking off. I thought I stripped it inside, but turns out its the top gear and servo horn meshing. These dont like undue stress and can start to round the teeth a bit.

I put in a nice JR HD retract gear , cleaned it all up and found nothing else loose so I am ready for Hesperia.

Ya Ive lost a couple of these hit-tecs and also had one that lasted years. Its not the internal gears , I see its the top gear protruding out of the top of the servo. I tried another servo horn, hoping that is what it was, but had same proble. Its definately the drive shaft up top.

The JR servo feels really tough. If this one fails I will get a car steering servo.

I had built a new Bronze plane. Took it out for a test flight yesterday and on the second flight lost radio connection and watched it fly full tilt into the ground. So, no backup for bronze.

Bill Vargas helped me get the Nelson tuned up so the cub may be no one for gold. Man that thing is fun to fly. It will depend on my mood.

Blessings, Terry
