Jeff, yes when you get it I would agree. When I want one I break out the fiberglass cloth, epoxy and foam blocks LOL. I was hoping that it would be more popular, the plan was to get ahold of Kevin Matney to see if he was interested in producing them as kits. May still cast that out and see if he is interested.

Things are moving slowly with this Macchi but they are moving. I got the last primer coat on it yesterday. The plan is to get the white base on tomorrow. I'm kind of stuck on the scheme design but the colors have been picked out unless David wants to change them.

World Models Spitfire made for Gold class racing.

gtm3323 06-21-2015 05:42 PM

I got the world model spitfire racing plane. Came in the mail last Thursday . I 100% hate building planes , just like to fly. Can this plane be build exactly as instructions say (stock), put a ys115 ws and be ok for racing? Will it make it a season and not fall apart, provided my flying doesn't crash the plane first. If not what modifications need to be made and what additional parts do I need to buy. I think I may change the tank to a dubro tank and maybe change to an aluminum spinner. Will it at least be a silver plane? Thanks for the help in advance! :)

PLANEBENDER 06-21-2015 06:55 PM

Jeff, although it might we plan to do lots of upgrades on ours. Including covering. Should have it ready by Valley of the Speed race.

pjakew 06-21-2015 08:48 PM

Hey Ollie. I picked up some gaskets for the 91. Quick question. When replacing the gaskets, do you lightly lube them, and if so, with what? Thanks!

pjakew 06-21-2015 08:50 PM

Man, that is one nice Spit. Are those available to gen pop yet?

PLANEBENDER 06-21-2015 09:07 PM

Dry.

pjakew 06-21-2015 09:11 PM

Thanks Dave

airraptor 06-21-2015 09:59 PM

yes they are but I think only 3 or 4 left at airborne.

As far as will they hold up for the whole season if built stock, I think so if not more. Time will tell. I recovered my wing because I didnt want to try and add covering to covering and have a bunch of bubbles. I did see some sub spars in the aft section of the wing. I Did fiberglass my center section top and bottom. mainly for gear up landing and for the top so the fuselage will not dig in if at all. I will order another one my self tomorrow. I can see these thing being very dominate in the warbird racing seen which is a good thing. You can get one of these going with engine, standard digital servos and alum spinner for around 800-820 dollars. you can have it built in 5-6 hours also.

Dave that is good. I think you will like the plane.

Spitfire looks good... wing is nice although I think the ailerons should be a bit more inboard where they can be a bit thicker and less prone to flutter but that is just personal preference... I have no idea why they would put a flat plate tail on a race plane, there is more drag there than two tails....

airraptor 06-22-2015 04:17 PM

well its an ARF and to have a built up tail or a solid one sanded would raise the price way to high. The goal here is to keep the price down. My next one will have an airfoiled tail. This plane stock will break out for our gold class so not required to anything extra.

Airborne has one plane left. A yellow one. The next shipment will be about two months or so as they have to get them built.

gtm3323 07-04-2015 05:01 AM

Is nose weight needed on the world models spitfire racing arf plane? Getting near the end of the build and looks like I have to put a heavy battery right behind the motor and maybe still some more nose weight to get the plane to balance. Anyone else experiencing that? Thanks ! :)

Gtm, that would depend on the engine being used. I know that Airraptor ( Jeff ) had to mount his battery under the stab with a 115 installed in the nose.

Now an update on the airplane I am building for Kaze. It's almost done. Just come clear and a couple pushrods and she is ready for delivery.

airraptor 07-04-2015 10:39 AM

GTM I used a HYDE soft mount from YS designed for racing. This added about 2-3 ounces to the nose. I never actually ready the book and not 100% on where the balance should be. in redding it was about where the front corner of the retract was. My battery now is halfway from the tail to the rear wing saddle. its a 1100 mah LiFe battery.

gtm3323 07-04-2015 11:18 AM

The Macchi looks really nice.

sorry for not clarifying. I put the ys 115 ws on the world models spitfire and it is really tail heavy. Now I haven't flown it yet but seems strange that it is so tail heavy. What in the world am i doing wrong. ??

airraptor 07-04-2015 02:17 PM

are you using a aluminum spinner. Maybe the tail feathers are of heavy wood. mine and a few others need a tiny bit of down for flight under power and little control throw. maybe if using stock mount and stock spinner might be where the weight is at and why need weight up front. just don't worry about it to much.

I am digging that paint job Speed!

Iron Dog 07-04-2015 07:25 PM

She's a beauty, Speed!

speedracerntrixie 07-04-2015 08:04 PM

Thanks guys. With the move and new job I completly blew the original deadline on this airplane. Kaze has been very understanding to the point I felt that he deserved something a cut above what I would have done for myself. I hope he likes it.

MFLOOD3800 07-04-2015 09:12 PM

I mounted my Rx and Btty right even with the rear control servos. Balanced perfectly. No nose weight, no tail weight, turns great and lands like a dream. My engine is the 115 and my btty is a life 1100. I mounted my throttle servo directly behind the fuel tank.

KazeRacing 07-05-2015 11:24 AM

speed that thing is bad ass i love it
