So Impressive! TY for all the detailed pics and steps you took. I will be checking on this thread often. The amount of time involved must be huge. I can't wait to see the end result.

Thanks ArrowNaughtic,

Yes the amount of time needed is huge, plus i need to plan in advance what needs to be done next, my mind will go crazy sometimes! LOL! Will post when the build is more substantial, don't want to post every other day, that means i'm not spending enough time building it but logging/surfing on the forum! LOL!

I'm fibreglassing the tail as i typed and finishing soon, then comes the horizontal stabs, that whole group is all balsa/ply combination too! Headache! LOL!

Cheers!

Horizontal stab came as a piece of balsa, lots of sanding and shaping involved. After sanding/shaping to the right profile, it's fibreglassed and left to dry overnight, same goes with the hor. stab winglets.

Reinforcement plate for vertical stab have to be scratch-made from the leftover ply veneer, not a very good design, it should have come factory-cut! Grrrrrrr!

I've replaced these 3 screws with stainless steel half-round machine screws, looks better than the stock cap screw heads.

Marking out and hor. stab hole by drawing out the profile from the stab. Cut the slot off, super-impose on the boom and mark out the profile, dremel it carefully, bit by bit, must not over-dremel and end up with a larger hole! Patience is paramount.

Top of stab was epoxied first, using a bottle to keep the stab level. After this was done, flip the heli fuse upside down and epoxy the bottom part of stab.

I will use my last finger to run thru the corner, that way it produces a very nice fillet all along the joint line. Tissue soaked with a bit of thinner is then used to run thru that fillet gently. The end result is very good and i'm happy with it.

Left and right winglets are next, epoxied into place, using some small weights to counter-balance it during drying.

Tail group finally done. On with the retracts and lightings...

That is really coming along. Love the finger trick also, I am a painter by trade and that is one sweet joint you ended up with. that really is starting to take on some very nice lines. Good job!

Thank You ArrowNaughtic!

Right now i'm doing up the 3 mechanical retracts, they are linked to one another with 2mm rods and ball links, quite good quality and very little free-play, but some bolts/nylon nuts were so hard to install in some god-forsaken places i nearly resorted to getting my kid to put it in for me because my fingers were too big, well fat actually! LOL! But luckily i managed to put them in after a few tries Just some minus points for this Hirobo kit. [sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

I will take some pictures and highlight some of the good points as well as the bad points of this kit.

Next will be to position the micro switch and the LED lighting system, Navigation lights, anti-collision light, landing lights.

Will post again when more is done, cheers!

Micro-switch position located and trial-fitted. When the retracts goes up during hover, the landing lights goes off and vice-versa. Wll be installing 2 ultra-bright white lights on both retract pods.

This is how she looks at the moment, there's still quite a fair bit to go ....i.e.

1. Navigation LED lights fitting
2. Landing lights fitting at the 2 pods
3. Wiring/soldering, voltage step-down with capacitors before wiring to LEDs
4. Sanding down whole fuse
5. Drowning!!![sm=drowning.gif] (Haha, just kidding!)
6. Primer painting
7. Final Painting

Thanks TEX

Ok, the LED lights were finally done today, there is a short video of the lighting system after this few posts.

I bought these indicating lights from the local electrical hardware shop, these lights are for control panels. Cut them in half, just retain the top half for use. They are then tested with 3 volts supply.
