4 blade head
 

Hi all, I need some advice, :eek:I am thinking of putting a 4 blade head on mt Trex500, I have it in the Hughes 500 fuselage.
Do I need a Stablizer System / flybarless 3 axis system, or will it fly OK without one, I will also be useing scale blades.
Any help & advice will be very helpfull, Thanks.

You don't NEED a Stabilizer System to fly a multi blade head heli. However, there are a few instabilities you must be aware of;
When turning into the wind it will balloon up and when turning down wind it will descend. If you are prepared for this you'll be OK. I did not know this and thought it was just the instability of multi blade heads. I did not associate the ballooning and descending with the wind direction. So, I installed a Micro Beast and my 3 blade Hirobo Lama flies great.

Hovering with no wind was perfect with out the Stabilizer System by the way.

Also, remember the larger a heli is the less need for a Stabilizer System. I've flow a Bergen Gasser FBL 2 blade heli with out a Stabilizer System. Flew just great. I would not do that with a 450 or smaller.

Hi Floridaheli, Thanks for your reply, I have orderd my 4 blade head & blades I will fit it as soon as it gets hear & give it a spin.

I'll go on record to say that you do not need a 3 axis gyro. Earlier this year I went through the same delema and received a lot of mixed replies. I have successfully installed a 5 blade head on my EXI 450 with a MD500 fuse and it flies great. The big issue is setting up the head correctly. I found a really useful setup tutorial that I will have to look around and get for you that covers the setup very well. My setup was from Copter X and is just the 5 blade head and a set of plastic scale blades (both from CoperX). I'll attach some pics.
