Joe Demarco was one of the regular draughtsmen for Model Airplane News for many years. THis was back when plans were drawn by hand with a big mechanical draughting table and "machine" that moved a set of right angle rulers. And pencils and ink on proper vellum were used instead of CAD.

Did a copy of the original article come with the plans?

Low final weight starts by selecting the lighter grades of balsa for the parts where balsa is used. Balsa comes in a huge range of densities from wood that is as light and punky as foam plastic to stuff that you could safely build houses from. Your job, as the builder, is to select balsa to suit each application so that it is light enough to aid in a lighter final weight yet strong and heavy enough to do the job needed in the structure. This same care for selecting lighter materials that can still do the job will run all the way through the construction, covering and painting of your model. All those few grams involved in each choice will add up at the end.

Best of luck with the build.

Hi i´m back
Too busy, but don´t give up yet, i´m been working in the fuse, and after thinking and thinking, i´ve decided make some formers looks more a Pitts shape alike, other think i have not clear enough it´s if will be place enough for an engine if i make it as the plans show (i´m thinking in a 120 4 strokes or a 26cc gass), anyway i will get time enough to decide if former 2 is the beginning of the cowl or middle form to make the cowl.
There´s some pictures.
PD. hi Bmatthews, not, with plans come just the plans not any article, and for the information about choosing balsa, thanks, but i knew, anyway here it´s difficult find balsa enough to chose anything. And Ilikebipes and Petronio i hope you enyo´it
