RE: source for obeeche ( obechi, sp ? ) veneer ?
Obeeche? I have purchased it from Paxton Lumber here in Des Moines, Iowa. I beleive there is a Paxton Lumber in Ohio, at least there was when I lived there. Thry them as if they don't have it they can either order it or give the name of someone that would stock the product.
Good luck.

I can't believe this !
Paxton Lumber doesn't have it either , Superior is not carrying it anymore, and DC Hobbies hav sold their obechi business to someone who does not want to supply to hobbyists....
Could it really be that in the Whole US there is not one supplier for obechi veneer ?
I found one in Germany, but the shipping will probably cost more than the veneer itself....

You may want to try Constantines as they sell alot of veneer. I looked in the catologe I have but didn't find a listing for Obechee. There are other veneers that would work for sheeting a wing that will cost about the same price (somewhere between .65 to .90 cents a square foot). Obechee is in the Mahogany family of trees and is very similar to Luan in weight and grain. Other plain sliced Mahogany veneer would also work. One thing nice about the Mahogany veneers is they come in wider widths and lengths so you don't have to splice the veneer to make it wide enough to sheet a wing. Constantines.com is there web address.

Well, it's not obechi, it's Finland Birch and thicknesses range from 0.4mm - 1/64" 3-ply up to 12mm - 1/2" 24-ply. Available in four or five foot square sizes from stock.
Get it here:

North American Plywood also has plain birch veneer, and they are a source for balsa as well.
You will pay for it, but it's excellent quality.
