Hooker 60
Hello everyone!
I have a Webra 61 Speed Rear Exhaust engine with tuned pipe and I want to use it in a simple plane.
I'm interested in the Hooker. This aircraft has a symmetrical wing airfoil.
But I have a doubt. I think it takes a lot of negative incidence on F1.
Surely this angle is correct (-5º) but equally I would like your opinions.
Regards,
Norberto

Thanks Bluelt for your answer.
I'll build the elevator with 3/8" solid balsa or sheeted structure (I don't know yet) but without the 3/16" sq. rod top and bottom. I think this rod is not necessary for a good performance of the model.

I remember when Chuck Cunningham designed the plane. The original plane was built very light for competition fun fly's and with 0 degree incidence the plane wanted to climb at full throttle. The negative incidence pulled the nose down at full power plus kept the nose wheel on the ground for take off. I think there were about 2 dozen club members built the plane for Fun Fly's.
Other people that should be credited with designing this plane would be J. W. Savage and Jim Strickland.
There were many versions of this plane built and flown before these plans were made available through RCM magazine.
Here are two other popular Fun Fly airplanes.

I am thinking of reducing the negative incidence to place the engine -3º
I also want to reduce the thickness of the airfoil. The original is 19% but I'm thinking of a NACA 0015 with 15% thickness.
Basically I want a fast plane, I do not want a fly fun.
If I put the engine with its cylinder upside down I will have to remove the nose wheel and place a conventional main landing gear and tailwheel.
I also decided to replace the original ribbed wing by a foam shetted wing with 2mm balsa.

Delta,
Thanks, I'm glad you like it. Yes, I built it from Hooker plans but mostly just used the plans as a general guide line. The thrust line and incidence are set like a traditional pattern plane, 2 degrees down and 2 right with the wing having 0.5 degree positive. It flies very well. Good luck with your project and post pictures of your progress please.

I'm drawing the new plan with some modifications from the origigan design.
Thinner airfoil (15% NACA 0015), tail dragger, foam wings, one servo on each aileron, 3/8" thick flat elevator, 2º negative incidence at the engine (the original is -5º).
