Post Controls Schematic for a rc plane built from scratch

Hello RC Universe forum,
We are a university student team building a plane to compete in the AIAA Design-Build-Fly competition. We have created a rough diagram of what our controls system will look like and we are open to feedback on it. The rules this year state that the propulsion battery cannot be used for anything except the esc/motor.

And left and right ailerons are usually off the same channel with a y-cable. You just place the servo arms so they are on opposite sides of the servo.
Note that the ESC often has a BEC and the power lead in the servo connector has that voltage on it. Be careful - you may need to cut that power lead (red wire) between the ESC and the receiver.

See bottom schematic in picture. As mentioned above, Y-lead is simplest; depending on your radio however you could go individual channels for controls and mix them together, i.e. ailerons or rudder/nosegear. This allows more control over precise movement of surfaces
