Dear ScaleAero,

Thank you,

Doesn't matter if it's for profit or not - copying and/or publishing the work of another without consent of the owner is a violation of law. If I buy a copy of a book, or a magazine, or a movie, or a music recording, I can't copy it and give it away. Plans are no different.

I have Jack's 1:10 scale plans for the Curtiss XP-55 Ascender and Vultee XP-54 Swoose Goose. Neither requires any vacuum-molded parts that the typical scale-modeler couldn't pull from their own molds (e.g. canopies). These are both pretty sketchy plans - not ultra-detailed works of art - but rather workable models of rare airplanes suitable for electric power.
I may offer 'em to Uncle Willie ... who hasn't been taken down for making out-of-print plans available as downloadable tif files.

Hi PJ!
Are you going to sell them or you just want to make them available?
Thank you,

It's my hope that Uncle Willie will make the scanned plans available for download, Kostya. I've sent him a few old plans from the 1960's that he may clean up and make available to the diminishing number of scratch builders. At $5US per sheet for a downloaded file, these are a viable way to take vintage plans and have them printed at whatever scale you're going to be working at.

That would be great if you could make that happen, I for one would love a set of each plan.

Here's a lousy lo-res scan of a print made from the hi-res scan I sent to Uncle Willie of the Jack Bale XP-55 ... only meant to give a sense of what's on (and not on) a Jack Bale plan.
Jack apparently drew his plans in pencil ... they aren't professionally inked or CAD, like you might get from the major plan publishers. But any experienced scratch builder ought to be able to work from his plans. If the hi-res scans pass muster with Uncle Willie, he might have the XP54 and XP55 available in a few weeks. Others out there with stuff to share might consider doing the same. It's about preserving the legacy ... not squeezing the last buck out of the late Mr. Bale's avocation.
Regards,

PJ

I don't consider $5 per sheet too steep ... and it's a reliable source of high-quality hard-to-find plans.
A personal choice...

Hi All,

Where is the proper burial for Jack?

Why not RCU makes a menu option for passed away rc modelers BIO's? or should be this legacy remain anonymous?

Where is Byron Godberson history? Carl Goldberg?, the OS founder? what about our heros?

It's all only money, e-comerce and chinnese ARF's?

Regards,

Javier

Its interesting that people think they can purchase many of the quote ~ unquote plans and construct the design.
For the most part, Jack's designs incorporated vacuum formed clam shells for placement over the framework to
achieve the proper scale model.

What's probably the best value in these plans is a proper framework (for the prescribed scale (size) model). That
would be fine for many to most of his designs to be powered by modern electric power...however if your taste is
for larger models the framework is not necessarily going to be appropriate.

A half way 3VU with cross sections would make for an excellent starting point if that were to occur. Below you'll
find where I created a composite image of the two elements required to scratch build. The third elements are a
good photo walkaround....purpose shot from a museum, restorer, or virtual composed from original manufacturer
images. The source for the two shown below were online...one from RCU, the other from the Russian 3VU site.

These are posted for the educational value achieved when composited. You need only combine drawings to mean
the artistic differentials which always exist because manufacturers only commissioned / drew assembly drawings,
not 3VUs. I used a simple graphics editor...Mircrosoft Image Composer to do this in seconds.

Those 'histories' for designers/kit makers like Goldberg and others can be found at modelaviation.com.

I would like to start by Saying I am the Grandson of the late JACK LYNN BALE. My Grandfather was a great man and I learned alot about him in the past week. I want to thank you all for the knowledge that you are helping pass on. As far as his Designs go I will like to get everything all togather and get it out you flyers, and Scratch builders. I see that you all are very close net community and have a lot of doing what you all do. Like my Grandfather I too build and design. My Designs are for 2 stroke gas pedal assisted bikes. If anyone Knows Jack Lynn Bale personally I would like to talk with them to learn even more about my Grandpa. Please Help Me Keep Jack Lynn Bale and his dreams alive. my email is all lower case
[email protected]
HERE ARE A COUPLE OF MY DESIGNS I uploaded There are not planes but in my Eyes it's about the same thing. Like I said I am working hard on getting Jack (grandpa) back on the map with us .

I liked your original post better. You know, before you edited it. The one where you were threatening legal action against anyone selling plans or even owning the molds that your grandfather or some other family member apparently sold a long time ago. Do you think you're sitting on a gold mine or something? Good luck.

After some research, I have discovered that the copyright on a number of Jack Bale's plans was acquired by Traplet Publications Ltd in the late 1990s.

Tony Stephenson, TPLs owner, was friends with Jack when TPL was based in Sierra Madre...
