Without being to thick and end up heavy, how thin of aluminum can be used for a 9 pound plane? I have seen some 3/16" but that just seems to stiff.

Default Aluminum L.G.

To some extent the thickness would depend on how long the legs are.

Generally, for a nine pound airplane 1/8 aluminium would be adequate. The grade of aluminium should be 6061-T6. This spec gives a material that has a certain hardness and therefore springback. Any softer material than this is not suitable.

Thanks Ed, From the axle center to the top flat of the gear is 4.5", 7.5" across the top flat, and 16.250" wide at the axles.

Ray,

!/8 thick aluminium will be suitable for a LG the size you indicated. I have a LG slightly smaller than yours. It was used on a model that weighed just over nine pounds. It is solid.
