Default building fram a plan

Ok guys, can some of you kit builders tell me what is the best way to know what stock/how much balsa,ply you need etc to build a plan fram a magazine?

Print out patterns for all the pieces that you will need to cut at full size. Lay them out on a piece of paper that is similar to balsa stock sizes, for example a 3 inch by 3 ft is a stock size of balsa here. Then just add up how many pieces you need for all of your cut elements. For the sticks just count up the lengths you need in each size and how may you can get from each stock piece...
by a couple extra pieces of each to cover for mistakes and you off and running.
