Default Solidworks Help

I am trying to design an aircraft from a 3-view that i have but am confused as to how to translate the 2d views onto the 3 planes in SW and scale it to the right size. Here is a similar example used by Mods-R-Me in his Kingcat design in SW. I am trying to do the same and scale it to the size I desire.

Any help will be really appreciated.

Haven't tried this myself, but it looks like he may have opened a new part, selected a plane, and done Insert/Picture on that plane. I won't guarantee it would work, but it may. If you have a registered seat, try calling your VAR. They are usually very knowledgeable in all aspects of SW. I am using SW2006 and SW2007 currently.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

First, create a new sketch on the plane you want to insert the picture.

Second, choose: Tools, Sketch Tools, Sketch Picture

Third, browse to the directory you have stored the picture and select it

Fourth, resize the picture by dragging the corners to get it to the scale you need.

I knew it would

I had to teach myself SW before using to design aircraft and I know what a PITA it can be but, once you figure it out, it is great! I just happen to be working on a Spitfire Mk II at the moment.

Fuse is coming along nicely...

azhar,

glad you worked the problem out. I replied to your work email, but I guess it didn't get to you in time. PITA, yes it is. Wait until you get to complex curves and fairings.

Jason,

Looking good as always. We got to compare notes one day.

Hi,

This is a nice tread, I also started to design a EDGE540 in SW, I use the views from the PDF file at the Zivko website. I used illustrator to make a vector drawing then made a DXF and then imported this in SW. I'm not familiar with CAD programs exept the electronic design programs voor schematic and layout PCB boards like OrCAD.

And with my less knowledge 3D CAD, I'm struggeling also to finish my EDGE540 design, so this is a great tread and I will follow this to learn more...
People like kevin and syd have great input, I hope they will come up with more Tips and Tricks to help a starter/beginner like me!!!

At the picture you can see my results at this moment, in detail you can see that I have big problems with the loft command, I can not make a good guide curve for it.
