Hi All,
I am very new to RC modelling. I have just had my first flight (lesson) on my recently built Ranger 40 Trainer.
I am also in the process of my first attempt at scratch building. I am building a "Fly baby" to suit .15 motor. My question is;
The plans call for a 1/8 ply sheet engine mount with 4 degrees of thrust (the engine is mounted on its side) I was wondering is it possible to just use a pre fab nylon mount from my LHS? If so what is the best way to obtain the reccommended thrust? Can I just off set the mount to get this? Or would it be better to use wedges under one side of the mount?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This question has been coming up a lot lately. The easiest way is to use washers behind the engine mount to test and when it's flying properly, replace the washers with a wedge sanded from plywood.

by the way the purpose of those seperate 1/8 ply mounts,they were called brakaway mounts back in the 60's.they were designed to break in the event of a crash and save the engine from damage as well as the fuse structure.easy and cheap to replace the 1/8 ply mount than rebuild shattered front end or buy new engine.still a good idea on trainers today.
