Default Quik Fli Mark III

I have a set of plans that I bought years ago and never built. It's called a Quik-Fli Mark III by Phil Kraft. I was thinking to building it; but was curious if anyone out there has built one. I've never built a plane directly from a set of plans but am willing to give it a go. I've built plenty of kits and have, what I believe, sufficient skills not to hurt myself .

If anyone has any input I'd greatly appreciate it.

I was going to start by having the plans duplicated so I can make some templates for cutting parts.

Here is some more info on it http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4221047/tm.htm and http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_24...tm.htm#2434444 . I have a taper wing version with retracts and it flies great. I built my first one in 1973 and currently have a Home Hobby Solutions kit to build in the future.

Templates is a good way to start. Study the plans a lot and basically make your own kit of parts for each segment or if you have the patience then do all the parts first and then assemble just as if it was a kit.

The Kwik Fli was a superb plane and a serious contender for pattern points in the day. Even now it'll make a superb sport model.

Back then the engines didn't have the power that we enjoy today. You'll likely find that a slightly lighter build will do just fine with a modern schneurle'y .45 or .50 two stroke rather than the old loop scavenged .60. But if you WANT that sort of crazy performance don't let me be the one to stop you....

Building from plans is not at all difficult. My second, third, and fourth R/C models were all plans-built, as were others down the line. If you've built a few full kits, then you just cut out all the pieces. Presto! You have a kit. Now put it together just like any other kit.

As stated above, study the plans carefully and make up an assembly sequence before you start. Again, if you have a few full kits under your belt, it will be fairly easy.

Lazer Works offers a short kit http://lazer-works.com/man.html. But, if you want to cut your own parts try See Temp. http://www.seetemp.com/
