Don't know about that, but what size motors does the Skip's C-130 take? Is it a kit, or plans? Is there a website? Thanks for any info! Matt

C-130
Hi Matt,
I don't remember all the details on Skip's kit, but I believe the engines were fairly small... maybe 4 .40's or less. There's another scratch-built C-130 in the Julyy 1999 issue of RC Modeler, by Joe Grable, with a lot of photos. His was done is the Coast Guard paint scheme, and used 4 Saito .91 engines. There's also a kit at http://www.ucrcs.com/QualityCatalog.htm and you probably are aware of the one on Jet Hangar Hobbies' site, at http://www.jethangar.com/ I found a page for you called the "C-130 Headquarters", with lots of photos and info on the actual aircraft, at http://www.spectrumwd.com/c130/ Hope this helps a little. |
Fat Albert
If I were you , I wouldn't do the "Fat Albert" paint job at all. It works for the Navy! I'm an Air Force Brat, so what can I say? Just find a true-blue Air Force paint job.

Fat Albert. I have a C-130 slated 1 or 2 scale projects down the line. Dan Palmer plans, 84"span I believe (haven't started on it yet). Jet Assisted Take Off (JATO) rockets included. Courtesy of Estes.
Will be a precision scale project right after Mike James and I finish the B-200 project. Hurry up with the production Turboprops all you crazy mfr's (err...mnfr's). And make sure their cheap enough to buy four. :-) |

There are two versions of Fat Albert, the older versions was bright colors, like on the Angels planes, the newer is the subdued colors. Fat albert is flown by the Marines.

Any detail on the SKIP's C-130 ?
where to buy that plane ? Thanks a lot in advance n brg, NICK |
Skip Mast's C-130
Hi,
I believe that Skip's C-130 plan is available from MAN magazine. With regards to the Dan Palmer's C-130, I have seen the recent enlarged version of his C-130 plan. Not quite happy with the design of the cockpit area and the weights he was quoting in his plan were, in my opinion, a bit under-weight otherwise it was a nice plan. I have not seen the JHH C-130 fly except for a write-up of this kit on RCM (if not mistaken) and that plane really looks impressive. I believe that JHH plan calls for 4x90 size engines whilst the Dan Palmer one (which I believe the enlarged version is of the same approximate size of the JHH) requires 4 x 0.40 sized engine (with tuned pipe each). In my opinion there is too much discrepancy in the overall weights. Reuben Saliba Malta (Europe) |

I have many pictures of fat albert in the old blue/white paint scheme when f/a was aircraft 49806 serial number. I built a smaller version using os 10 fsr engines using the f/a paint scheme. Skips used k&b 3.5 (.21) engines which are no longer available. Skip Mast is a good friend of mine and lives near by.
If you are interested, I will copy the pictures for the cost of duplication and freight. Dave Nellis [email protected] |
Fat Albert
Fat albert is one of the schemes I am gonna do But I am also going to do an AC-130 Gunship nothing will look cooler than it sitting there with all those miniguns and cannons poking out all over the left side. only thing I am not sure of is if they had anything on the right side. I know they turned left circling and firing but dunno if they had a couple guns on the right for defense. Anyone familiar with this version of the 130?
Joe PS I have the 88" palmer plans coming but will be enlarging them to the 136" ws version he has |
Fat Albert
I have built from Skip Masts C-130 plans and the plane flys great. I used four os 40 fps running 11 X 4 apc props, my plane weighed 23 lbs when it was done. I covered the wing with monoquote and fuse with fiberglass and paint. I found out by accident my plane can fly on three engines even on takeoff at a 30 degree climbout. Unfortunetaley I had a radio failure after about 20 flights and that was the end of that one. I have been busy working on a new and improved design based off of skips plans it should be ready for the 2003 flying season, it seems to weigh in at about 20 lbs so far with a wing area of 1200 sq/in. As for anyone wanting links I just used the following keywords in a search engine "blues angels fat albert" Its great to see others fliers who are interested in multi-engined planes.

Little help, please...
As a ex- Air Force man, "Fat Albert" to me means a C-5A Galaxy. Does the Navy call the Blue Angels support C-130 "Fat Albert"? - George |

RE: C-130 Hercules Blue Angels Fat Albert
Do you know any links or terms that I can use to find some info on JATO. I like the C-130 concept like the Blue Angels do with the rockets for take off. When I search jato from an RC website it only returns the brand JATO. I would like to build one of these planes, or buy, but can't find anything with Jato. Any help would be great. Thanks
Video would be awesome too. |

im from Australia, and i think that some of our guys call hercs "fat albert". I prefer $30 myself. by the way, since we are on the topic of hercs, have a look at the remains of mine after i turned in into a helicopter at 25 feet by running starboard outer dry.
Does anyone have any herc scale plans on file??? |
RE: C-130 Hercules Blue Angels Fat Albert
I think C130s looks awesome in Fat Albert and us coast guards colors. Personaly I would go for blue angels livery with use of unsignia yellow on it.
I am looking for 100 inch + Wingspan model now, let me know if anyone has one as lost interest project, slightly damaged but in recoverable condition or in collecting dust condition. Preferably in Canada. Thanks |
