Elevator

Elevator in the making, it's all Balsa wood. All pieces including trailing edge are included to the kit. No need to cut Balsa filling blocks in between the ribs. All pieces intersect, self adjusting 90.

The hinges are delivered as all control horns, rudder connectors etc. The material is 3mm phenol resin, which has a very glossy surface, so I sand the bonding areas with medium grid 100. They are glued with thickened epoxy to their ribs, the trailing edge has slots to stick them through while finishing the stabilizer. Partial sheeting is the final step.

Before glueing the hinges, I usually enlarge the center hole and put some brass guiding in there. Along with the 2mm steel wire, the axis has zero play then.
Afterwards I use thick epoxy to glue them while the axis is always inserted to avoid twist and surprisings after everything has hardened.

The elevator control unit looks like this, all parts are delivered with the kit:

Meanwhile I started working on the elevator rudder. The torsion wire is usually stick into place, when parts are glued.

Upside done apart from sanding the le which I start when the bottom side is sheeted as well. Since the elevator is done with a rather thick symmetrical Naca 00xx airfoil, you might select the better looking side for the top one 😁

Currently sanding all LR to shape, I wanted a little motivation and put the stabilizer onto his Balsa saddle (which fitted pretty fine without sanding!)
Tail starts to take shape.

Best,

u/c mounting plate milled from 6 mm air-ply, supported by two poplar ribs with 1,5 mm air-ply doubler. A few spots shouldn't care about ultralight weight for safety reasons. This type of gear mounting is standard for my kits, bulletproof. The outer whole is for the outer wing mounting later. Adding the holes for the mechanics and will epoxy the plates to the ribs. Just a few minutes of parts preparing the parts and a bit of white glue, the rudder stab is set up.

Self adjusting, you don't even need a plan underneath. Woodbuilding can be fast, if the designer did his homework.

The 6 mm Balsa trailing edge is also the last fuselage former, this helps to build a solid leightweight rudder.

In short time, the rudder is completely setup. Controls and hinge axis are similar to the elevator... And they fit together nicely. Next step will be partial sheeting of the rudder stab and sanding all pieces to be fabric covered later.

Started with the inner flaps plate. The outer flap ribs are part of the wing ribs with a small holding tab to give the proper shape to the inner flaps plate. All remaining ribs are inserted with the guiding for the flaps wire axis.

I took the weight before this step. Fuselage is 3,8 lb so far, that's nice.

Inner flaps attached, possible movement is more than needed.
