Balsa wood
 

I have lots of balsa wood from my husband's estate but no idea what it is worth or where to sell it. I would appreciate any information. I have included some pictures and can take more if needed. Thanks in advance for your help and expertise

what part of Ohio do you live? I am from the southern part of Ohio. if you are close I would be interested. Dean

I live in Brunswick OH a suburb of Cleveland.

For that much balsa, I'd make that drive. Just don't low-ball her as there's quite a bit there, just from what is visible in the pictures. Heck, if I was even in Indiana or Kentucky, I'd take the trip.

I agree with Hydro. Wood is getting very expensive. I would however suggest you inventory what is there and publish a list. IMO doing so would maximize how much money you would get for the bundle. Not knowing exactly what is there will affect offers. At first look you could have anywhere from $125 to $300 worth of wood there. Having an inventory list of exactly what is there would make for a much more accurate estimate.

I wasn't going to put a dollar figure on your stock of balsa but that was kind of what I was thinking as well. I'm also not accusing Magyar of being dishonest as he probably isn't but, that said, there are some out there that would offer pennies on the dollar for a cheap score and, since you don't really know what you have, a dishonest person would probably get away with that and you wouldn't find out until too late.

I would not get her expectations to high, every time I try and sell stuff I am lucking to get 50 cents on the dollar.

And I agree, you never get all your money back. It's the person that swindles someone as I referred to in my last post that gets my blood boiling. Losing half is about normal, losing 75% or more is robbery in my book

I wouldn't bother with an inventory. Just take a picture or two of the whole pile so we can see all of it together. That will be enough. You will spend all day trying to figure that stuff out. Plus, the real short block stuff would be impossible to inventory.

If you have not sold it yet. Might I recommend you contact your husbands model airplane club president to auction it off for you.
You may keep the proceeds, donate to a cause, or you may let the club have whatever they take in. It is not going to be much, and it will not involve a lot work for you either.
Most likely, their are a small number of people in that club who are strongly interested in the wood. You would have it off your hands sooner than you think.
Shipping all that would safely is a lot of work and involves some expense. Have you ever shipped anything like this before?
From looking at your photos, I do not know how old the wood is, nor how brittle it might be. Wood ages, the weather affects it, and I do not know what else.
You are free to do what ever you like, but give it a home soon.

Note. I told my wife to give our son whatever he wants, and the remainder can be auctioned by the club. If she wants, she can keep the proceeds or donate them.

There is also aircraft birch plywood, box of strips with colored ends as in the picture and a box of miscellaneous pieces of wood. Any idea how much it is worth based on this? My husband did not belong to a club but how would I go about finding one?

A lot wil have to do with age and condition, do you have any idea how old this wood is and how it was stored?

It was stored in my basement in carboard boxes. It does not appear to be warped. It is at least 10 years old because my husband is gone for two and he was sick and did not work on planes for at least 8 years before that.
