Need some help with a solution for wingstruts.
Hi!
i have got my hands on a old but un-built Great Planes Ultimate Biplane ARF. The issue is that the wing strutīs only have 2 out of 4 thumb screws left. 2 is gone, and i didn't notice that then i bought it dirt cheap. i have been thinking of any solution to solve my issue, but i wanted to have a look here and see if someone else have a smart solution from experience and so on. and ofc i need to ask, is the hardware on a Great Planes Ultimate in inches? i doubt any Great Planes is made with millimeter stuff? :) Best Regards |
Take one of them to ACE hardware and go to the screw section There is usually a thread measurement device there for people in your situation.

If you can post a picture of the thumbscrews that came with the kit. I know 4 posts might be an issue.
The other alternate is to replace the thumb screws with hex socket cap screws. Then use a ball end driver to aid with removing them with the driver shaft at an angle. And perhaps cut off the short arm of a ball end key and glue it into a short shaft to make a custom tool that fits between the wings to permit installing and removing the hex socket cap screws with lots of room to spare. |
