Easy flying Bipe plans?
 

I'd like to try my hand at scratch building a biplane. As I'm an intermediate (at best) pilot I'm looking for one that is very forgiving with respect to flight characteristics. I'd love to try an aeromaster but can't find any plans for that plane.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a bipe that would fit my needs?

I've built two RCM Acrostar's. Actually only two fuselages since the wings outlived the first fuselage. It got so oil soaked I tossed it. Came out back around March of '73 and I built the first one back then. I built the second around '89 or so and still have the top wing. I've since started another (third) fuselage and lower wing. They fly well and do well with anything from a .40 to a .61 2 stroke but my next one will get a Saito .72 or .80.

I didn't use lite ply on the fuselage with mine. I used hard 1/8" balsa instead. I also used stringers and open contruction on the "turtledeck" aft of the cockpit. Plans are only about $10 or so. I ordered a balsa package from Lone Star and it was very good quality.

I finished up A 55 inch Krier Kraft from plans by Gordon Whitehead and sold through RCM. I did make A few changes but nothing major, my changes were made because the plans are over 10 years old and we now have better ways of doing things. I powered it with A YS 110, and added stiffer springs to the LG, flying it was very easy, it has great ground handeling [most bipes don't] and in the air it flys like A Kaos. Landing is normal for A Bipe, it tends to slow down fast because of drag so I bring it in with throttle management and it is easy to bring down. So far I have only had one dead stick, it was very smooth, I kept the nose down and the speed fooled me, when I turned in to the runway it slowed faster then I thought it would and I just landed A little short. It's A fun build and A great winter project. JMO Look it up in the RCM plans and read about it, A very good flying plane.

I would recommend a Phaeton 90 or a Lazy Ace.

The Sig Hog Bipe is a beautiful flyer. I reduced the plans and built it at 75% scale. You can get the plans and instruction manual from Sig.
