hi,

just a short post to show the CNC I have designed and I am going to build...

Nice looking. What is the projected cost of this.

RE: my cnc

project cost is still to be defined, but lets say complete ready to run it should be around 1900 USD...
this is expensive but don t forget one thing...the cutting area is at least 90x60x40mm.
the frame is 10mm flat bar plain aluminium and 5mm angles, so it is rigid and strong.
it is adaptable for dremelsR tools and makitta trimmers.
the speed should be around 24cm/min with a nice precision (enough for our models).

at the moment there is only standard threaded rod, but if I put ballscrew then it will be much much faster and precise...but more expensive.

I might be able to sell some throw a local company in the UAE, but this is still not determined.

ok guys....

after one day mounting the all machine I can say that I am really happy...
the design is ok, all the parts fits perfectly without problem. now the machine precision is ok and it is very very rigid.
I still didn t finished to connect it on the driving board (tomorrow) but I am sure it will be running nicely.
I only notice to minor pb:
- the main threaded rod was little bit bended so motion was crap...I changed it now it is ok.
The linear bearning of the Z axis seems to have somelittle parasit movement (<.5mm) but only if you give lots of constraints so it should not affect wood or composite cutting.

here is two photos...more coming soon!

hi,

I did differents tests with my new home made cnc and I found no problem cutting light ply with the tool 650 which is a 3.2mm strait router bit.
cutting with the engraving cutter 0.8mm and 1.6mm is working but not very nicely and not at all with carbon fiber.
the 3.2mm high speed cutter 194 was ok to cut wood, but burning it little bit and it got ****ed in the carbon fiber.

1) is the tool 561 the best one for a router?
which tool and parameters for carbon fiber cutting?

2) Which tools and speeds and feed rates are you using for you routers?

3) any place to buy online some real milling machine bits (small diameters)?

thanks,

Here is one, they might have what you need.

http://www.mcmaster.com/

Good luck, I'll look for more. What bit shank dia, size, type are you looking for?

Here is another.

http://www.use-enco.com/

and another

http://www.grainger.com/

One of these may have what you need and ship overseas.

For that matter
http://www.bvmjets.com/
sells a carbide cutter set they say is good for cutting carbon. Or you could perhaps email them a request for info as to what they use in their machines.

thanks for the links, I will have a look at them before going to sleep! :)

here is a test on a wing profile..I did not cut fully, it was just to test the movement of the machine for this kind of shape.

the curvature seems ok, just the trailing edge is little bit cut probably due to little movement of the support.
I have seen that depending that there is some speed at which the cutter vibrate little bit...depnding on feedrate and depth...

I think on that point there is a need of little practice before getting not burned wood and with perfect surfacing.

I have just received some new motors and a new driver board...the machine is now very fast! up to 4 times previous speed...and even this speed will be x2.5 soon when I will receive my ballscrew!

I just received my ballscrew..it amayzing...just holding the ballnut with the ballscrew vertical make the ballscrew turn and move by it own weight!

I will install it in the cnc next week...need to modify few parts to accept this system!

RE: my cnc

I am waiting to receive my new motor couplers... then I will be able to increase again the speed...I tried to go at 5m /min but then vibrations are simply to high because huge steeper rpm!

you are right but when something is done, it is always a better satisfaction for yourself to have it as perfect as possible.

I will film a short test tonight.

here is 2 tests cuts I have done with the CNC in its final shape.

the control horn has been made with a 1.5mm tool at 600mm/min.
the heart with a 3mm one at 1000mm/min.
