Clour Dancer engine mouting problems
Hi All I'm trying to install an OS 40LA, side mounted in my scratch
built CD 40. My problem is the muffler is hitting the bottom n side of the fuse.I could always mount the engine upright, but it will spoil the looks of this fine looking plane. Don't really want to cut the part that the muffler is hitting. Any one out there run into this probelm? How was IT solved? Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks Dan |

Is it possible to make an aluminum shim to go between the muffler and the engine? This will move the muffler away from the fuselage. Longer mufffler screws will probably be required.

Engine mounting
Hi Dan
Have you already mounted the engine? If not will the muffler clear if maybe you mount the engine at almost inverted or more upright than sideways? Or you could always go with a pitts muffler and mount it sideways which is what I prefer. If you want to use the stock muffler mounting the engine inverted usually works but there can be a tuning issue with some engines. Let us know what you come up with. Sam |
Try a Super Tigre
If you haven't already mounted the engine, why not try a Super Tigre 51 or 45?
The exhaust stack allows you to rotate the muffler so it should clear the fuse side. It also allows the muffler to be situated farther away from the engine than most others. That, plus the Super Tigre is probably a much better engine than the LA40. Hey, if you're gonna spend the time to scratch build a plane, don't scrimp on the powerplant. my $.02 Albert |
