How is the best way to get my plans desighn, too my wood for cutting out.how do I tranfer the plans to the wood, use carbon papper or is there a better way,please help,getting ready to build my first plane from plans.

They way I do it is to print another copy from cad or zerox from drawings and cut out the part patterns. Then I just trace carefully around the edges. If you cut parts a little bigger you can sand them until your satisfied with it. This may not sound like the best way, but it's worked for me all my life.

I always get a second "working" copy done. No point in trying to pull the glue off the originals....

Plans to wood
 

I make photocopies of the cut parts from the plans (using a copier that doesn't distort the parts), I rough cut them with scissors, then I stick them onto the wood with paper "glue stick" from the stationary store. after cutting out the parts, the paper pattern simply peels off the wood.

Yes get the plans photo copied. Then use a pounce wheel to trace the pattern . The pounce wheel tool is a small star shape wheel that puts small holes through the paper into the wood. Now all you have to do is connect the dots. Small and tight corners can be done with a straight pin. I use some spray on glue that I bought at a hobby store to hold the pattern to the wood. Make sure the glue is the temporary kind like used on post-a-note pads. Spray the glue on the paper pattern only so the glue won't stick to the wood when you are done tracing with the pounce wheel. Try using the 3M 77 spray adhesive. I got mine at Wally World for less than $7 for a big can of it and should last forever. Also, I use a scroll to cut out my parts. Loads of fun.

What I have been doing that keeps the templates for future use is rough cut the paper parts out. Then I use 3M-77 to glue the parts to a piece of formica (counter top). Next I cut blanks of the correct size wood and use 1/8" dowel to pin it all together. Then just cut and sand to shape of the part. When you are finished, you still have the template for future use. This also works well if you want to cut enough parts for more than one airplane at a time.
