Twin door bomb bay - Plan or pictures

1 Attachment(s)
I am currently building a Pilatus Porter from a plan I have.
I while in construction I want to add a bomb bay so that I can drop a skydiver.

I am planning to build a box structure in the bottom of the fuselage to provide strength
and to keep the payload confined.

The attached diagram shows the idea.
I was wondering is I could get some pictures of some other designs.

Any feedback welcome

Thanks
Jody

I built one quite similar in my Kadet Sr. Used 1 standard servos with an extension arm for enough throw. I used 1/16" music wire bent into a long "V" attached to the arm. I used "Z" bends on the ends connected to the control horns. Works great. Springs open, and springs closed so theres no stress on the servos at all; even when loaded up with a couple lbs. of flour bombs. I operate it with the gear switch on my transmitter.
Have fun.

Hi

I have made several bomb bays in a similar way but using correx.

I had one installed in my waterplane cub, i have a band on one that was on an arising star and a specially designed plane with a large bomb bay under the fuslage.

The half cut flutes are used to hinge the doors.

The mechanism for opening consists of a threaded rod with a clevis at the servo end and just bent at 90 degrees and goes inside one of the flutes on the doors.

The diagram has no dimensions as you could make it to any size you want.

Jody,

Did a candy drop box for my Super Flyin' King using exactly the setup you show in your diagram. Documented with pics here:

I think I'll outfit my Kadet Senior with the same idea. Thanks!

Awesome ideas guys! I got bored this afternoon and starting fabricating a bomb drop for my Tower hobbies trainer. It hasen't seen much use lately so I figured what the heck. I have to keep it light though. I attached some pics of what I got roughed up so far. I do not have much room to work with in my trainer so I am still working on how to open and close the doors. Any ideas are appreciated!
