Hi, I am looking at getting a Beaver to put on floats, what is the best kit or arf? The bigger the plane the better. I am also open to buying a used one if anybody has one they would like to sell. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I, too, am looking for a good Beaver kit.
Not having any luck with the www.mraerodesign.com site, though. Typo?
Thanks,

I was offered a Vmar Beaver with an 120' span and a Moki 2.1 for power. Are thsese Vmar planes any good? What about the power for floats? Do they make floats to fit this kit? Whats the fair value for this, it has only been flown 3-4 times.

The best=kept secret in modeling:
Zimpro make a wonderful Beaver model. 100" Wingspan. Works well with a 1.8 moki.
Sheeted foam wing and stab, fiberglass fuselage. Glass scale floats. Airfoiled aluminum struts.

I bought a Zimpro Beaver several years ago and am about half way done with it. Got sidetracked with other projects and just recently got back on it. It as I understand from an e-mail I got from Dennis at Zimpro may have been an early kit. I think it was a good value but I changed a few things I didn't care for. Dennis is good about answering questions and all in all I think it is the best Beaver I have seen. I have a OS BGX 3500 in mine and almost put a small gas engine in it , something like my Taurus 2.7. I think Dennis is flying a little closer to sea level as he recommends a Moki 1.8. I don't think that would cut it on floats at 2500'. I also have his float hardware which is nice, but will be using some foam float a friend of mine cuts.

Just to add some comments about the MR Aerodesign Beaver. This aircraft was designed with original De Havilland drawing. So the shape is very accurate. Also, I think (i'm not sure), but, it is the only kit who have the 2 cowl (like the real one) with the scale air cooling exit.
I currently design the scale gear leg with fonctionnal rubber oleo and also the float.
The gear pickup are exactly the same that the real one and you will can change the aircraft configuration (sea or land) in less than a hour.
All control surface are scale with hinge position and location like the full scale Beaver.
The control rod and horn for the elevator and rudder are hidden in the fiberglass tail cone. The flap and aileron control rod are also at the same place than the real one.
If you seach for a very scale and easy to build Beaver, I think is't a very good choice !!
If you need more info about this plan and/or semi-kit, just go to my website or drop me an e-mail !!

Picked up a 12 ft. Unionville Beaver on wheels, put it on floats, required a lot of nose weight to balance, so I installed a G-62 with a 22-8 prop. Flys very well at 1/2 throttle. Aircraft is "stand off" scale on the ground, but looks great in the air. Handles rough water and wind well. Struts and associated hard points had to be beefed up as Plane now weighs 48lbs.

I built mine from plans from a Unionville kit. I made the floats from their prints and ordered a cowling from them and am very happy with the plane........Seaplane

I'm very happy with my 8ft Unionville kit. Same as Smoky's but the radial version. I do have to say that MrAerodesigns kits look awesome though - especially if you get the laser cut parts. My next kit will be from him.
