Monokote is a retractable film ... Isn't this a problem for an aircraft actually evolving in water ?

Hi Strykaas,

no, Oracover and Monokote do not have big problems in water, except when the edges are not ironed on carefully.

As an added security, I let a little drop of fluid CA run through all edges of the plane (leading and trailing edge, floats, fuselage...), this helps sealing all open parts and prevents water from reaching the balsa underneath. Put a small drop of CA and let gravity do the rest!!
Contact me if it's not clear enough, I will try to post some pictures :-)

Regards,
-Fabrizio

I think the paint is not needed. I have a Sea Cruiser II flying boat that I covered with Ultracote (same thing as Oracover) and have not had any problems with water getting in under the covering. I did not do anything to seal my covering seams, but you can use the CyA tip if you want.
