Default NEW - KMP Cessna 180/185

Hi Everyone:

I just thought I'd let everyone know that we have a new 84 inch Cessna 180/185 on floats coming this fall. I realize its not the best timing for a float plane but its the best we can do. Originally it was due this spring. The mold for the fuse is complete and I will post a picture of "your truely" holding it (including the balsa wings) just to give you some idea of the relative size of this Giant.... not yours truely, the plane

The reason it will be released later than expected is due to the development of the all composite wing and tail surfaces now beeing created. All the panel lines and rivet detail will be included for maximum scale looks. By next spring we should have a scale fiberglass wing for the beaver as well. Modelers will be able to buy them as an upgrade for the exhisting models or pay the "new" price for the complete composite kit. The model will be available with wheels and floats of course.

Cheers,
Andrew

Andrew can you tell us more about the floats.
Will they be scale cessna floats or the same one as the Beaver?

No factory 185 had the small fin. If you mean the the 180 from '64 on when it got the same (well, almost) fuselage as the 185, remember, you will need a different cowl too.

Hi:
We took this particular subject from a photograph so the model as you see it should be accurate. We used plans and pictures of 180 and 185's as reference material.

This fuse will be the only version offered but the doors will NOT open like the one shown on the prototype. We found that the strength of the fuse was compromised somewhat by the very large opening and the hinging to align the doors was very difficult to keep consistent.

Hi Scott (Skypilot)

Here's a suggestion for you, The all composite beaver won't be out for a while... honestly I'm thinking next summer at the earliest. If you did buy one of the regular DH-2 Beavers with the standard glass fuse you can always buy the upgrade to the composite wing and tail parts later. As you know the new composite twins will be somewhat more expensive then the orignal airframes so the difference between buying the full glass kit and the upgraded wing kit will be a nominal difference.

Whichever way chose, it sounds like you'll be the lucky owner of a KMP ARF soon!

Cheers[8D],

OR ,

Since i already have a NIB set of your Beaver floats, you could sell me a "short kit" IE, everything in a standard wheel kit except for the parts you will be converting to composite. I can see no good reason to pay for the wood parts i would not be using???. I would have no problem whatsoever though, buying a shortkit from you now and setting it on the shelf with the floats until you could send me the new composite parts to complete the kit

Also, I personally don't like gassers, so what other engines would you recommend?? I love Saito's and OS's.........how about the Saito 180 or the new 220 or the 200 inline twin or the 180 twin??

Hi:
Sorry for the late reply, I just had surgury (minor) so I'm slowly getting back to the swing of things. The Saito engines are fantastic. I own quite a few myself. The 1.80 has been an excellent choice for those using it now. Lots of power with some to spare. I have not received any feedback yet from those considering using the larger ones you mentioned. I trust that they would be more than ample to do the job since the 1.80's are more than adequate.

Cheers,
