New to float planes

I have a cottage on a small lake and last winter I put together a
Flacon trading cessna 177. I would like to know how some of you
got into float flying (how you learned) also I still have to put an engine
into the cessna, I have a Saito 91 4 stroke or an OS 61 FX, which one
would be better for a new to floats pilot I am sure I will dunk it a few
times as I learn to fly off water.

The Cessna is a great plane on floats and if you allready fly you shouldn't have any problems flying off water. Just hold up in the elevator till it gets a little speed then start letting it off to get up on step, then just a bit of elevator and you are flying. On landings I liked to keep a bit of speed on and fly it in, it's fun to drop it in but it looks better when flown in.
I had an OS 91 4c on mine and Loved it, it was a bit tight getting it in but it fit fine, I can't speak for the Sato but I have heard that it fit a little tighter then the OS. I also know of a couple that put 61's in and they were happy with them so you should be fine either way.
By the way in case you need parts or anything Falcon is out of the picture and Hobby People now sell those planes that Falcon had.
If I can be of any help with the Cessna or any of the ARC/ Model fly planes just let me know, I've had them all and have flown them ever since they came to the States. ENJOY !!! RED

I forgot something you should be aware of. The Cessna wing is NOT designed to do a lot of AEROBATICS and it will bend just outside of where the wing joiner goes. When designed it should have had a longer joiner. I've never lost a plane because of it but I do have 2 wings that are creased because I was playing a little too hard. ENJOY !!! RED

My Feedback: (1)
You'll be OK if you just perch the standard landing gear atop proper floats.
Technically the prop should be high enough it stays clear of spray. An inch or so higher than the line between the tops of the floats should do it.
Width between floats: Again, moun the floats on your standard gear legs and you'll be OK. THe guideline is 1/4 of the wingspan....but nobody with a clipped wing cub puts on narrower struts...
