I agree, there's many more out there and someday Gerry will be building a bigger one for the OS 420 radial he has. I'm in for the brotherhood. Mine is currently sitting is dry dock (on top of a bed in the spare bedroom) waiting out the cold winter. My wife now says I have two planes worthy of the bedroom. She thinks my Shinden Kai is even better than the Kingfisher. Will have to raise the bar again with the Devastator on floats. LOL

Default Charlie Smith Plans

Really nice job on this Ted! I recently ordered a short kit for the Kingfisher from Sarik and was curious if I might be able to get a copy of the Charlie Smith plans for the float design? I know this thread is a bit old but Im hoping you might still have them. If you have the plans digitally I can also just use that.

Thanks!

Paul

Hi Paul,
i had the Charlie Smith plans reduced some to match the wingspans so the float proportions would be correct. I know I should have a copy somewhere as I always keep my plans. Because the BT kingfisher is not designed for floats you have to remember to put the tip float mounts out in the wing tips and make some ply rib doublers to strengthen the area. There can be a lot of force applied if a tip float gets stuck orhits the water hard. I also used 6/32 nylon screws through the streamlined tubing to hold the tip floats to the wing. Bending the streamlined tubing 90degrees surprisingly didn’t cause any issues.
