float mounts
1 Attachment(s)
Hey gang, hows the snow flying season?
Question; I built a Sig Senior that I've recently had to strip the bottom sheeting off of the fuse (glow fuel soaked[:@]). When I built it I did some er... re-engineering for strength in a "few" places and wound up with a rather portly senior. I've got 4 landing gear blocks in it, the original trike one, the conventional gear, and two for floats. I could go either way on replacing these mounting blocks. I could probably sand on them enough to get rid of any glow soak or just replace them. How beefy do mounts need to be for floats? These are hardwood landing gear blocks from sig/etc. Can I use something smaller/lighter for the floats? Thanks |
RE: float mounts
Typically the landing gear mounts are plenty strong enough,,, for normal take off/landing,,, you should be fine

RE: float mounts
Thanks, what I meant though is can I remove them and replace them with something lighter/smaller. My Sig really tips the scales and any weight savings I can eak out will help. My thought was that the floats will be mounted in two places with the force obsorbed from landing spread out over the entire float and to mount points...
Any thoughts on this? |
RE: float mounts
I see, yes, you have a lot going on there,,
If it were me I'd just leave the standard taildragger mount and something for a rear float mount position and remove everything else. If you go to much lighter and you risk them breaking in normal water operations,, the water is rough on the plane,, don't go too light good luck |
