Piper cub float positioning
 

Hi

I've just acquired some floats for my old 72" flair piper cub, they look about the right size for the model but i'm a bit confused about the positioning of them.

Do you have to find their C of G and place that in line with the aircrafts C of G?

Are there any other rules of thumb to help me with float flying?

Any tips gratefully received

The rule of thumb is to locate the step of the float from 1/2" to 1" behind the CG of the plane. Some articles will show the step right at the CG to 1" behind.
Here is a good article (click on the pages on the left).
Locate the floats (CG vs step) on the plane then rebalance the plane if necessary....adding weight to the tips or rear of the floats (to minimize added dead weight)
