Heinkel 51B float plane
1 Attachment(s)
I'm just putting the finishing touches on a plans built Heinkel and thought I'd share it with you water lovers. When I first started float flying, I thought it would be pretty stupid and risky to have a scale float plane, so I started immediately:D The plane was built from an old Hobby Helpers control line plan, enlarged to 60" ws. I took a few liberties when building so it's just stand off scale. Power is an old OS .90 fs The wing saddle is removable to accept float or land gear. A few issues to address and then I'll maiden her-land gear first!

Beautiful work! I like the way you have the two separate belly pans for the floats and wheeled gear! Great idea. Keeps it real clean!

Sorry, I don't have any pics during the build. I know I should be better about that but I just get going and can't be bothered to pick up a camera.

Thanks for the compliments guys. I still have some work to do before a maiden(off land). It would be nice to get it all sorted out before a float fly in September, but I'm in no hurry see a wreck[:o] I'll keep you posted.

ORIGINAL: ByLoudDesign yel914, is that a view of the starboard tail of a MATS Connie? I think yel914's avatar pic is the starboard tail of B-25 "Miss Mitchell". http://www.flightglobal.com/airspace...rth-dakota.jpg Fantastic work on your He-51 yel914, beautiful airplane. Best of luck with the test flights. |

Boy was that a good call. My wife and I took a ride on Miss Mitchell a few years back and that's a shot I took out the escape hatch over Utah Lake. As I recall, the cost for both of us was about $800. We've never thought that it was unreasonable. Most fun I've had in years:D.
