First ever float-fly report.
 

Well, after help and encouragement from you all on this forum, I had success at my first ever float fly. The Sig Mid-Star took off and landed beautifully on those floats, and I am absolutely hooked. My maneuvers in the fun contest were pretty awful, but the rest went great. Nothing broke, no deadsticks, and I absolutely greased 2 of 6 landings. Can't wait 'til our club's next one, next April. He came early, and dead-sticked in during practice time. I think it busted a float or possibly a mount or something. He packed up and went home before I realized he was gone.

I BELIEVE that is a Clancy Speedy-Bee. I know it had an MDS .28 in it, and he said it has given him nothing but trouble, thus the dead-stick.

That is a Speedy-Bee, with Clancy floats.

Gee, September and it's already cool enough to wear a hat up in Oregon. Down here, we a fortunate that we can fly pretty much year-round.

I guess that the styrofoam cup on your Midstar was for a bomb/candy drop contest?

I think that right after that, I lost the hat and the flannel shirt. It was cool in the morning, but once the sun came up from behind a thick stand of trees, all was ok. You can even see wool gloves on the ground near my flight box!

The cups were used twice, first round they had 10 beans in them. Take off, do 1 loop, land, multiply the number of beans left in the cup by 10.

Next round, put in a hard-boiled egg, take-off, 3 loops, land, in the shortest time possible. Zero points if you lose your egg. I lost mine on the 3rd loop!

We're having our first cold-snap of the year, temps into the upper 40's. Love cool weather!

The bean/egg non-drop sounds like fun.
