u-can-do on floats?

Has anyone heard of putting floats on a great planes u-can-do? I've got a 60 size one and I'm thinking of mounting floats on it for some lake-flying. Can anyone offer any help? Thanks Roger

RE: u-can-do on floats?

Gauchers,

I have flown my U-CAN-DO 60 on a set of Falcon Trading Co. floats. They are the correct displacement, but are on the short side given the legnth of the Fuse on this plane. It flys fine, but if you really want you can put the tail in the water with enough up elevator. To really match a set of floats to this plane would require building from scratch so you get floats long enough, but not with too much volume. To mount the floats I ordered a 2nd set of gear and reinforced the belly pan for the rear mount. I did this as I was building the plane. If your's is already built, you might be able to do something back at the wing hold down screws.

Good luck,
sbm

Thanks SBM! Do you have any pics? I was thinking of mounting a set of floats from foamfloats.com - I'm interested in seeing your setup.

Here you go. As you can see the floats are quite short for the legnth of fuse, but correct in terms of weight supported. They are also mounted perhaps a bit forward of optimum, but I originaly had them on a nother plane, and didn't want to re-position the mounts on the floats. Legnth wise you would probably want something in the 45-50" range, but they wouldn't need to be very bulky. The foam floats might be a good choice for you.

That's what I like. A two car garage with no cars and just airplanes! :D:D
