BTE Flyin King

Hi,

I just thought I would post a pic that I took today, of my Flyin King. It has only had to flights on the floats but seems to be working well. The water rudder did not function well before so I was at the lake testing my new water rudder setup.

Enjoy

good looking plane what size engine did you put on it?

Nice looking plane, and that's a great pic! Friend of mine is building one now, but he hasn't covered it yet. We were talking about floats for it yesterday, but we were wondering where to get ones big enough.

Whose floats are those, and do you think an O.S. .70 4 stroke would be enough? I think it will be o.k. for land duty, but on floats???

campaholic, my dad has built several and has had 2 or 3 on floats. A 60 is plenty of power. We have added bigger engines, but don't really notice any speed difference. He flies in Royston...

Proptop, the OS 70 is one of my favorite engines, the FK should fly very well on it. It is no speed demon But there will be no problem getting it up in the air.....

Hi nony,

I think that this could be one of your dad's planes. Does he live in Courtenay BC?

I have a 60FP for power up front.

If I remember the floats are about 40" long and are from my local hobby store.

ohhh... yes he does live in Courtenay.

I didn't recognize the colour scheme unless.....it was the one hanging in Franks shop.....???

Yes it was the one hanging in Franks shop. I bought it about three years ago. I used it as my trainer and love it so much I think I would have to build another if this one was lost.

I have seen your dad fly a few times. He is always so nice to chat with.

Well, isn't this a small world!!!!

The FK is a great flying plane...the only thing I have trouble with is getting it to come down!! It does not want to quit flying!!! Flaps help a lot. But without them, when that big wing gets into ground effect................. it will float on forever. Latest project was a low wing version, and is that ever a sweetheart to fly! But for some strange reason, even though everthing else is the same, it does not float as much...

I have only seen pictures of the low wing one, but it looks interesting. Mine has the flaps and they are great. You are correct about the wanting to stay up. At idle mine just floats along nice and slow. I can't wait to get mine in the air again. I was taxying around close to the shore today just wanting to fly, but I had now way to get it if something happened. Oh well, tested my new water rudder setup anyway.

I have seen your dad fly at both Franks and Royston.

I pointed my dad towards this thread, and he is very happy to see the Flyin King is such good condition. He said the 2 of you were talking just a few weeks ago..........

Here is a pic of the low wing :

That looks like it may be a neat project one day.

Glad to hear that your dad was happy to see the FK. It could use a little touchup on the covering in a couple of spots, but other then that it is in super condition.

I have seen some of your posts before and have always wondered if he was your dad.

Yes, there are 3 generations of us flying models...

Hello,
I just order the Flyin King today. My first model airplane in 20+ years. I can not wait to start building. It looks like it will be a lot of fun. My cousin is going to teach me to fly it.

Has anyone loaded the specs into Real Flight to practice flying?

I will keep people posted of my progress.

Campaholic... What lake is the picture taken at??? And are you going to be at the Comox float fly with the FK.....?

campaholic 02-26-2005 02:39 AM

RE: BTE Flyin King

The pic was taken at McIvor Lake just outside of Campbell River.

The club that I am a member of puts on the Comox float fly, so I am hoping to be able to go.
