3D floatplane?
Is there such a thing? I'm recovering my Lanier Mariner 40. I've sliced off the control surfaces. I'm going to upgrade them to gi-gutis status. I don't care about hoverability... but a good elevator, pop-up and harrier would be schnizzle.

Cabane,
A while ago someone posted a video of a Heckler on floats. Here is a link to the Heckler land version. http://www.wingtote.com/heckler.cfm CraigA |
RE: 3D floatplane?
Just flew my Funair 40 on floats the other day off of snow. It flew really really well. And it was a blast. Unlimited verticle with a 46 Fx. Flat spins great. Harriers great, loops in it's own length with flap/elevator mix. tried to hover, but the floats made it do funny things...I am sure it will do more I am still wringing it out. If you like shoot me an E-mail and I will take some pics this weekend and send them your way

This has already been covered....
I been flying a Dazzler on floats for 5 years or so, before that I had a Hots on floats, also they both flew off snow excellently. I also have a modified Outlaw that I would consider 3D but others might not..... |
RE: 3D floatplane?
Don't want to get off subject, but floats are MUCH better on snow than ski's....the ski guys will catch a ski in footprints and flip over.....floats just skim over the irregularities. So put flaots on a 3-d style airplane and you have a great 4 season 3-d er

RE: 3D floatplane?
I'm putting floats on my Magic Extra and we're gonna fly off the snow this week-end. We've been flying off of the snow with floats for years, and they are far more versatile than skis IMO...
I mean, ya can't fly off water with skis, can ya?!:D Unless you always taxi really fast :) and don't slow down too much! And, last summer, we flew off the grass right after a rain storm with the floats... |

This has already been covered.... I been flying a Dazzler on floats for 5 years or so, before that I had a Hots on floats I've got the covering off and I'm looking to Jenny Craig it. I'll stick build the control surfaces. I'll keep you'zz guys posted. |
RE: 3D floatplane?
Ah yes, upon re-reading your first post, I see...:D
Sounds cool, can you post some pics when you're finished? |
RE: 3D floatplane?
Well reality check time. I mocked everything up. With the stock tip floats, this baby is going to be a portly 6 lbs. My intended Irvine 53 will be doing a gut check....

RE: 3D floatplane?
yea thats the problem.....3-D needs to be light.

RE: 3D floatplane?
A Saito 82 will 3D 6 pounds just fine.:D So will a YS 63.

OK. i'm giving up on the 3D pipe dream. I going with enlarged plank type controll surfaces over built up. I'll settle for some hard core sport flying.

RE: 3D floatplane?
I fly a Funstar 40 w/ saito 72, apc 14x4w, hitec 225mgs, 30" foamfloats on modified magic mains. It's a bit heavy but does 3D alright. almost VTOL, cheap too!

RE: 3D floatplane?
OK.So the 3D idea for this air frame was a pipe dream. All up is a porky 7 pounds. I'll just be content with some sticks in the corner flopin and a little fun. Hope to fly this Saturday.

WOW WHAT A TRANSFORMATION !!! :D:D
I can't beleive how different that Mariner looks now with the extended surface's and new skin, SEKSEEEEE Keep us in the loop on how she goes, if she goes great, i might experiment with my new Neptune, and do the same thing!! I have a OS-46AX i could put in it OR an OS-50SX if the 46 did'nt do it :D:D |
