Seamaster + 4 Cycle
Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if anyone out there would know if the Ace Seamaster 40 Arf would get off the water with a Saito 65 4 Cycle? The person at the hobby shop said I would need the 90 to fly this thing. Thanks |

Check the other threads; lot's of people seem to be flying them with 52's.

A friend of mine used to fly a Seamaster with a OS .48 Surpass 4-cycle. I flew it several times. Plenty of power.

I have the kit version with a Saito 56. No problem at all. In my opinion a 90 engine would be too large.

I've got a Saito 65 in my Seamaster and it's a perfect match. Works so good I've got a new Seamaster Arf and another 65 waiting for assembly.

Saito 65
I have been flying my Seamaster (kit version) for 12 years with a Saito 65 and it is a great combination. We always have to remember that we don't always have to fly at full throttle.

hello......i have been flying a seamaster with a os 70 4 stroke for two yrs now.....great power!!!!! ...i first tried a 90 magnum 4 stroke....way too much power!!! the motor pod and mount would have to be beefed up....the plane has plenty power in reserve with the 70 os.....thanks.....pault

Another thing to remember when sizing engines for sea planes like the Seamaster, you are limited by the fuselage as to the diameter of the prop. The last time I flew my 90FS I used a 13" three bladed prop. I would hate to see an eleven or twelve inch prop on a 90 trying to spin at 15000 RPM.
One of the fellows here had the giant Seamaster with a ST3000 on it. I believe he swang an 16" prop and he had to cut a notch in the fuselage to provide prop clearance. It sure made some wierd noises with all that turbulance at the prop tips. The nicest flying Seamasters I have seen have been powered by 48's and 52's. Peter |
Seamaster ARF
I recently put an OS 40FX with an Ultra Thrust muffler on my Seamaster ARF and it pulls it around just fine. Another member has the same plane with an OS 46FX and he let me fly it and the only real difference I noticed between his and mine was vertical climbing power. He might have a slight edge in how quickly his got off the water too.

I fly the Seamaster ARF with a puny .46LA in it and it flys fine, takes off great and lands well. It is no speed demon but the .46LA is enough and I have a magnum .52 four stroke on a global pt19 and it has lots more power than the O.S. .46 LA. Fun little plane I hope you enjoy it.
