Designing floats

Hello,
I'm gonna design a set of floats for my 4* 40 and my rascal 40. I know that the step on the float needs to be at the center of gravity, and the float length needs to be between 34-36", but how wide should the floats be, and how far ahead of the step should the floats go. I've never designed these before, but I have designed numerous boats, the rest of the design I have no problems with, it's just width and depth.
Thanks

Do search in this forum for "Cunningham". You will find links to the definitive article on float design.

Take a look at Randy Linderman's website. He has the Chuck Cunningham article posted there, and it has very good guidelines for float design.

Go to the Sea Commander floats site and you have all the dimensions for the 36" floats.
Good luck,

KZimmerman, are you going to try a single-float set-up on your 4* like I did on my 60 and 40 4*'s ?. quite the conversations at the flying sites. MM

No, I was gonna do the more traditional dual floats. Seems easier to land to me.
