Designing floats
Hello,
I'm gonna design a set of floats for my 4* 40 and my rascal 40. I know that the step on the float needs to be at the center of gravity, and the float length needs to be between 34-36", but how wide should the floats be, and how far ahead of the step should the floats go. I've never designed these before, but I have designed numerous boats, the rest of the design I have no problems with, it's just width and depth. Thanks |

Do search in this forum for "Cunningham". You will find links to the definitive article on float design.

RE: Designing floats
Take a look at Randy Linderman's website. He has the Chuck Cunningham article posted there, and it has very good guidelines for float design.

RE: Designing floats
Go to the Sea Commander floats site and you have all the dimensions for the 36" floats.
Good luck, Guy |
RE: Designing floats
KZimmerman, are you going to try a single-float set-up on your 4* like I did on my 60 and 40 4*'s ?. quite the conversations at the flying sites. MM

RE: Designing floats
No, I was gonna do the more traditional dual floats. Seems easier to land to me.
