GP 60 Cub Float question

I am in the process of attaching my floats to my GP 60 size cub. The manual for the floats says to line the step up 1/2 inch behind the cg. Problem is that mark will put the back support on the aft edge of the hardwood plate. When you attach the floats the aft most screw does not go through the plate. Am I missing something here?

You can fudge a little on the step location, maybe a quarter of an inch behind the c/g. Would that give you enough room for the screws? If not, then you'll need to add more plate area to the fuse in that location, either inside or outside. Either way, make sure the float centerline (longitudinal) is parallel to the fuse centerline, and watch your c/g.

Yeah that would give me room I believe. It also says to shift the cg 1/2 forward. This true also?

Can you tilt your rear rear strut forward so that you can mount it properly on the plane, yet leave the step just behind the cg ?

Yeah maybe if I can get the solder joints hot enough to move the supports. I think I'll need something more than my regular soldering iron for that.
