Sea Commander Floats attachment brackets
Are 4 screwes in the Coremat for each end of the spreader bars really enuf or are you guys doing something else? Also my attachment brackets are NOT bent to screw into the float, its just a flat piece of alluminum. any ideas on bending them (x8) and drilling the holes? Thanks.

Greggk,
The screws are adequate but you have to bend the brackets...they come flat. When you bend make sure you put a piece of rounded wood next to the bend in your vise and bend over the rounded portion or they will snap. Just take it slow and easy when you make the bend. I made a slightly different style (more scale) from flat sheet alum. I bought at the hobby shop which if you break any you can buy there rather than have Ryan send new pieces. I cut them on my bandsaw. As for the drilling I clamped them and used my drill press prior to bending with a bit roughly the size of the threads on the screw. Bud |

Thats an awesome pic. Bud thanks for the tips, heck if mine come out a 5th as nice as that i would be thrilled. I have another question? What have you used for the attachments of the N strut on the fuse. Its a H-9 T-Craft made for gear? Could you show a pic. of the fuse. N strut joints for me? Thanks so much...

Thanks Gregg,
Since I made mine scale like the original I made my own brackets from aluminum bar stock and they attach to the scale gear brackets on my Dave Patrick cub...not sure what the T-craft had for gear brackets. Bud |

Hey Bud, how do you do your rivets? What do you put on those floats length wise to give them that appearance like its material covering the seams? What do U use for the hatches? AWESOME JOB. Thanks. Oh... is that stainless steel you use for your mounting brackets or is that painted regular steel? If SS where can i find that and how thick is it?

Hey Gregg,
The rivets are from microfasteners http://www.microfasteners.com/catalo...cts/TNMRVL.cfm and they are placed with tweezers and ca after drilling all those holes! [X(] The lengthwise pieces are cut from a channel shaped piece of plastic I found at home depot in the ceiling tile dept called corner brackets and were 10' lengths for .88 cents. Great deal!!! Cut them down on my bandsaw and ca'd. The brackets were made from 3/4" bar stock aluminum and you can get it from an online aluminum supply house, don't remember which one I went to...think it was in Ohio. Cut on my bandsaw, filed edges smooth and polished on my drill press. The pieces coming from the streamlined tubing and thru bolted to the bracket is just alum. flat stock I got at the LHS. The hatches are sheet styrene stacked one on top of the other and ca'd together then sanded around the edge and ca'd to the float. Good winter project huh? :D BTW...I would suggest looking into the float mounting cradle from commander, makes building floats a whole lot easier and great for transporting! |
