Youch! that is what I call tramatic deceleration!

RE: Seamaster 40F
hopefully it was alright afterwards, wasnt it?
shame tho, a dam fine plane... i must get me one of them for when i go the the seaside! |
RE: Seamaster 40F
Have ya'll been to their website? They crash everything they fly, judging by the videos on the site. There were no intentional landings on the movies on the whole site!

RE: Seamaster 40F
I just bnought a SEAMASTER 40 at a swap meet. I have added the radio and engine and am ready to go. Would be interested in hearing about others who have flown this plane.

I bought this plane at a swap meet. It came with wheels, but no manual. I know where the main gear goes, but don't know what holds it on. There are two brass tubes glued to the inside bottom of the fus that will take the gear, but what keeps them in? Hope you can help.

RE: Seamaster 40F
I have a 40 seamaster with a 46 supertiger. It is a grate flying plane. When you are taking off let the plane build all the speed it can. The plane will lift off the water on it's on. It is a fast plane. flys good. I land mine at about 1/4 throdle. I land it faster than I would if it was landing on land. When the plane hits the water it will slow down fast. Water has alot of drag......I would practice landing on land first. When you can land it perfectly on land with a long approach. You are ready for water. Good Luck... Happy Flying

ORIGINAL: simhatus HI I have flown 3 standard seamasters, they all flew very nicely. I think the one in the vid was either a long way out of trim or very nose heavy. I have also built a much lightened version which has more fun fly type characteristics. Simon |
RE: Seamaster 40F
i went to ace hobbies website and read the manual for the seamaster and the main gear is held on with a rubber band between them, check it out lifttruck41

RE: Seamaster 40F

RE: Seamaster 40F
Our pontoon boat has been put up for the winter, so it will be about next April or May before I can try out this plane on the water. When I bought it at the swap meet, the previous owner had glued the nose cone on to the fus and I haven't tried to get it off so I can attach a nose wheel. I want to fly the plane, so I think I'll give it a try with wheels. We broke records since 1927 here with the cold, so must wait for a warmer day.

I had a Seamaster and am dieing to get another. One of the best flying planes I have had. I did a few mods to stiffen the tail and stuff but it was an awsome flying plane. I ended up throwing my wheels out, if it was made for water thats where I flew it. The plane in the video looked out of trim/balance. I would be interested to know what the weight was and what engine prop combo.

My seamaster suffered from a tragic accident where the pilot made a full throttle turn into the ground. There were no survivors.
So Dave, what kind of mods did you do to stiffen up the tail section? I find the stock setup to be somewhat weak. I always have that thought that the whole tail assembly will snap right off in high G situations. It might be fine the way it is but there's a lot of movement there when full throttled on the ground. After the rebuild, everything to do with wheels was iliminated on mine as well. |
RE: Seamaster 40F
Anyone ever tried putting retracts on this plane. ( I know its a seaplane, but it would be nice to land it either place if it flies so good!) I have one, but I am waiting until I become a better flyer. Bought it when I had the money. Also, is the 46 the best engine. Seems like you would want all the power you could get in a very light weight engine.
THanks, |
RE: Seamaster 40F
I HAVE A ACE SEA MASTER, AT LEAST I THINK THAT'S WHAT IT IS, 56'' wing span with a engine pod at rear of wing, set up for a pusher prop 40 size engine mount only enough clearence for 9.5 prop. The setup on it now is os 40 bushed 9*6 pusher prop, it has never been in the air, i intend to fly off the ice. looking for info on this type of setup, will it fly

RE: Seamaster 40F
I have just completed my Seamaster and it is a terrific looking plane. I am excited about flying it on Lake Lanier. Everything I have read on the forum reinforces my choice for this plane. Everything I have read here leads me to believe they are easy to land and can do aerobatics, which would be cool at the lake. Any advice anyone who has actually flown one would be helpful so that I do not crash on my first flight. I am going to check it out on land first and make sure all is working well and adjusted. THe kit had two left rear landing gear so I am waiting on a replacement for one of them. They don't seem to be interchangeable.
One question. The tail assembly seems to be very weak. Mind sort of shakes with any pressure. I am concerned that if I do any kind of aerobatics, it will come off. Has anyone done in mods to reinforce the tail. Thanks for you help. |
RE: Seamaster 40F
Last Summer I took both my float plane and my new SeaMaster to the lake. I had flown my float plane before, but nerver the SeaMaster. I had several flights with my float plane and decieded to try out my new SeaMaster. It took off beautifly and flew well for half a circle before crashing into the trees along the shore. I didn't realize I was that close to shore in my pontoon boat. I have since repaired my SeaMaster and am waiting for good weather to put the prntoon boat back into the water. I will try flying it again in a couple of months. I was really surprised at how well it flew for a short time.

RE: Seamaster 40F
thats to bad about your seamaster Bobet! I have had mine now for a year now and all I can say is that if flys fantastic! There is about 6 or more in the club I'm in. With power from a O.S. 46 AX to a O.S. 70 FS! And some other power plants I don't recall at this moment. Some of us made some mods on the aircraft that just so far has worked really well!! Enjoy and have fun!

Has anyone done in mods to reinforce the tail. Thanks for you help. Horizontal Stab reinforcement struts made from carbon fiber tube with wire loops on ended for screws secured with CA & shrink tubing. Used wood dowels glued into stab & fuse - 1/4 on stab and 3/8 on fuse to support screws. A few have used MW for the support. Joe |
RE: Seamaster 40F
Thanks, I may put those on. It just seems very unstable as it is. I did notice on other item on you plane. THe horizontal stabilizer is more forward than how mine is currently built. When I put the stabilizer even with the front of the rib, I could not get the elevator to work properly without hitting the flat pare the top. It seemed to fit better when I pushed the horizontal stabilizer back about 1/4 of an inch. It works almost perfectly in conjunetion with the Rudder. But, I am worried about the flight characteristics. If you pushed yours back about 1/4 an inch, you would be set up the way mine is now.
Any ideas how this will affect the flight and how to keep the elevator from hitting the back flat part of the ridge. I could not see how your rudder and elevator fit together or I could probably get a better idea. I bought the plane in 01 when I had lots of money. I knew the dot com bubble would burst, sure enough, and I bought some toys during that time when I could pay cash for them The kit has had some glitches. I had two left landing gear. Not interchangeable. And, the blocks that were installed for the wing nuts were slanted on the underside. Almost like they put them in upside down. I had to remove them and replace them before I could get the blind nuts to work. Also, my rudder and front landing gear were on the opposited side from the instructions and the landing gear control arm will not reach. I may just scrap the wheels and test the plane on the water. The TT instructions were not up to some of the other manufacturers. Although I really like the plane. I am going to use a TT46 on for power. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, |

Thanks, And the TT46 (Pro) will be a perfect engine for it. I use a OS 46AX - nice engine. Also watch how you cut the engine pod. Make sure it extends far enough forward to clear the front of the engine. If I had cut mine on the mark as intended, it would have not been long enough. I ended up putting a smaller tank which worked fine. A smaller throttle servo will help. Like an HS-81. And I agree, the manual is not for the beginner. Joe |
