Identify this seaplane
 

Hi can anybody identify this seaplane for me? I want to know if anybody has seen this thing and how old it is. My friend has it and I fell in love with it when I saw it. I will probably own it someday soon, as he has no place to fly it.

I inclued a picture of the front and one of the servos inside it. Hopefully the servos will help date the thing. I have done a lot of searching and have never found a model quite like it on the net.

It's a Lake LA-4 Amphibian. Don't remember who makes the KIT/ARF. Might be an old pilot kit

Some of the other servos on that seaplane are Carbon Wiper servos. They have the same look and colour.

Jonawald,the model that you are trying to identify is indeed a Pilot Lake LA-4.This particular kit was manufactured by Pilot kits (OK Model Co.)back in the mid 70's to mid 80's era.As far as I can remember,Pilot was the only kit manufacturer ever to have produced a kit of the Lake Buccaneer .This particular model could be configured to be either a pusher version for scale or tractor for sport flying.Most went with the tractor pod version because of better engine cooling and you didn't have to go searching for a proper size pusher prop(which were not the easiest to come across back then).The tractor set up also placed the engine further forward on the fuselage which meant less ballast was required up front to achieve the proper C of G.If your interested,check out this site below for more information and history of the LA-4 and the other versions:

The Lake line started with the Colonial Skimmer. Colonial Aircraft Company first flew the Skimmer in 1948. Lake Aircraft introduced the LA4 (180 HP) in 1960 and the LA4/200 (The Lake Buccaneer) in 1970. Lake Aircraft first introduced the LA 250 (The Lake Renegade) in 1984 and the Turbo Renegade (270 hp) in 1987. In 1994, Lake introduced a new product with a salt water “beef up” for added corrosion protection, the Seafury. Today, the Seafury and the Seawolf, a military version, are still being produced.

I saw a prgram on TV some time back that spoke of a full size one in Lake Erie on VT side. Said water temp so cold that plane was almost in mint condition.

Wow, my search on the Lake turned up some old threads... jonawals: You might try Bill Effinger Designs for a Renegade plan, kit, etc.
